Yemeni jetliner has crashed in the Indian Ocean

A Yemeni jetliner with 150 people aboard has crashed in the Indian Ocean off the island nation of Comoros, aviation officials in Yemen said Tuesday. The Airbus A310, from the national airline Yemenia, was en route to Comoros when it crashed about an hour before it was due to land, an airline official said. There was no word on the fate of those on board. Most of the passengers were Comoran, an official at Sanaa's airport told CNN

This has not been a good year so far

Why should they? Each accident must be studied. How old was the aircraft? How well was it maintained? How experienced were the crew? What were the meteorological conditions at the time? Were any other aircraft in the proximity? Could a bomb have been planted? There are so many questions to answer before blame can be levelled at the aircraft, airline, aircrew or other agency.

And on the other side of the equation (and probably outweighing all of them put together) - the need to be seen to be addressing public concern, uninformed or otherwise.

The FAA and US civil aviation pilots have crossed swords over Airbus long before either accident happened.

Yeah they have rescued 1 child (wonder how they managed to survive - blind luck no doubt).

Yes it is another Airbus but there is no need to ground them. The aircraft in question has been banned from French (European?) airspace due to 'technical irregularities'. Being Yemeni owed it won't surprise me if there is a maintenance issue that hasn't been address and contributed to the crash happening in addition to other causes (weather/pilot error etc).

Do we say that every time a Boeing has gone down? I am sure more Boeing's have gone down than Airbus's...

Lets figure out why it crashed first.

On another note. My condolences to all the passengers and family members. Another tragic accident.

Damn tragic, and amazing a child survived. I wouldn't question the Airburs until the investigation is concluded.

Most interesting, until your post I was unaware of the banning order. I feel it is the mindset of those who run certain airlines that is to blame in many instances. If they believe in the Will of Allah above technical orders then it is a potential recipe for disaster.

There's been some slight confusion regarding my post.
I just meant that Airbus is having a terrible run of bad luck, not that they make poor planes.

Statistically speaking the more Airbus's that are put into the air the likelihood of one crashing goes up.
Same with Boeing who have dominated the market for years.

Good news about the child who survived the crash if true.
The reports I am seeing are saying that it is unconfirmed.

I can't add to that statement and I agree completely.

I think you make a bigger point than you realise
People don't tend to start juggling safety record statistics when a plane goes down, they tend instead to postulate that 2 + 2 = 5; we have two air accidents where

i. both are Airbus
ii. both crashed in the ocean
iii. within a short space of time of one another
iv. both for reasons as yet not ascertained

unfortunately, that is the sort of pattern that an uninformed public (uninformed does not imply unintelligent) formulates and carriers know it. They know that they need a definitive statement disassociating one accident from the other and they need it quickly. Airbus definitely need it quickly.
