Aaawww Hail!!!

Thought you might enjoy a few pics of what inclement weather can look like.

Last night circa 2300 our BAX aircraft flight 705BX encountered severe weather over Alberta Canada. The aircraft was cruising at 35,000 feet when it encountered tennis ball sized hail. The pictures below show some of the damage. All landing lights were destroyed, as was the radar. The crew was forced to make a "blind" emergency landing. Upon safe return to the ground the first officer and flight engineer quit. It is expected that the aircraft is a total loss as its structural integrity has been compromised.

I saw this one pic of an AV-8B back in ground school that went through I think it was 1/2" hail they determined. I tried finding the pic but couldn't. Looked like guys just lobbed a bunch of grenades on it...

Wow that would have sucked. I have flown through some pretty bad weather but never anything like that. We were flying through the alps and saw the storm one time and turned back and landed at an Austrian Airfield, pulled the aircraft in the hanger and then the hail came.
