The creepy crawly thread.....

Having seen a lot of pics from you guys recently while you are out and about taking pics, there are a lot of macro shots being shown.

Thought it might be an idea to start a thread for these close up shots of the insect kingdom. If it creeps, crawls, slithers, fly's, swims ...whatever, add your shots with a quick 'one-liner' describing where, when why etc.

I'll start the ball rolling with...
1. Common Garden Spider, back garden. Nearly put my head in its web before I saw it !
2. Common Garden Spider, back garden, different area.
3. Common Garden Spider, top view. Check out the spikes all over it !!!!!
4. Ant dragging a Hornet away to the nest for eating later. Cyprus. Strong little dude aint he !
5.Praying Mantis. Outside my bedroom window while I was in Cyprus a week ago.
6. High speed snail...check out the racing stripes !.. on a thorny plant of some sort. I didnt have to ask him to stay still for this shot !
7. Head on with a Fritilary (I think) on a wild flower

Awesome shots! I had to do an insect project last year! The teacher kept the insects though, or I would've posted them

Fantastic shots Gary. Did you have a good holiday in Cyprus, lovely Island, lived in Limassol for 3 years while in the RAF. That was before the invasion, but I've been back a few times since.

Nice ones, Gary. I really like the second spider shot with the shadow in the background.

lmao @ "algea spots" on the lens! There's a "special" technique I use to get the fish shots, but those are very real fish and they are in the Sacramento river.

How about a few more critters, then?

IMG 1: Leaf Hopper - not the best shot, but shows some cool detail and proves you can be too close with a Macro lense...
IMG 2: Praying Mantis
[B]IMG 3:[/IMG] Praying mantis at night...notice his eyes...
