Thanks Gnomey!

Since I get asked a bit. I am starting a series of articles on Aviation Photography techniques. I have finished my first article on shooting static aircraft. Take a look and see if it all makes sense and see if I missed anything. I want to make sure that it is helpful.

Van Gilder Aviation Photography, Static Aircraft

I plan on doing one a month with follow up articles on taxiing aircraft, close ups, air to ground and air to air techniques.

I have an advertisement approval for an ad going in the souvenir program for the Pt Mugu Airshow! I did the photos and layout for the ad for the CAF. I have one syntax change to make and it's off to the printer! I am also working on another ad for the Pacific flyer and 2 posters for the CAF. The posters are pending approval right now and the Pacific Flyer ad will be done this week. Things are looking up! I will post those once the final proofs are ready.

Thanks! Yep, it is fun. More great photos coming soon. March 31, Riverside, April 1 Point Mugu. Then on April 28, I have a new scheduled event. We are doing a special event at the museum with the A6M Zero and the P-40 Warhawk. I don't have all the details yet, but I am guessing that there will be some flying.

Well, this has been a day of oddness....
The ad for the Mugu newspaper and the program has been pulled. Apparently, the CAF was uninvited from the Pt. Mugu airshow this year, claiming they "didn;t have room for us". WTF? So, we have pulled the ad from their paper and program. Darn, the ad was nice too! Ah well..

So I get home and find the shipment of the calendars I special produced for my customer to find my printer totally f*cked up the printing! What they printed was complete cr@p! So now, I have a dozen calendars that I guess I could use to line birdcages with, and I am out the cost of the damn things. I sent a note off to my customer explaining what happened and let him know that I will find a better printer, or if he doesn't want to wait, I will refund him the money.

Ah well, into life a little rain must fall...Argh!

Anyway, here is the ad that was going to be in the program. It may still end up on the Riverside program yet. I made it in both color and black and white in case color was more for the ad space...and it was! One thing I should point out, the admission was changed to admission donation because of our tax status.

Oh, and no problem on the Collings info, Dan. I figured since I knew they would be in your area, you would probably want to see them.

Hell yea man, I went and saw them in Mobile instead of Hattisburg, I was workin in Mobile so....

It was more fun talking to the Vets than anything else... I hoped everyone enjoyed the pics... Kinda hard to climb through a B-17 with a messed up knee...

I was trying to imagine a guy your size squeezing through that front section and the bomb bay. I'm not a big guy and it is pretty cramped for me. I was wondering why you went to Mobile, now I know. Chatting with the vets is a great part of the experience. The last time the B-17 from the EAA came through Camarillo, they didn't have anyone there that knew anything about the B-17. So I ended up giving an impromptu talk about the airplane, answering questions and just enjoying the history.

Yea, same thing here, I was telling a few novices about the B-17 and what it was like with fighters comin in etc ect...

The one thing that always surprises people is the ball turret and the tail gunners posistion... They cant imagine someone sitting in the tail exposed like that...

New section added to the website this morning. I have had a few requests for a "Best of 2006" section. So I am splitting it into Static, flying and air-to-air. So far, the static section is up with 25 pictures that are my picks for best of 2006. More to follow with new sections. Enjoy!

If you think airplanes are hard to photograph, you should try children!
