| If you get an opportunity Harrison to read up on the battle it is very interesting. The best way to follow the events is to start with the campaign itself, starting at Fredricksburg then Chancellorsville and on too Gettysburg.Lee was a blind man at Gettysburg for he lost his right arm at Chancellorsville when Stonewall Jackson(best field commander) was killed and Jeb Stuart(calvary eyes) was off galavanting and took to long to report back about troop movements.Fredricksburg and Chancellorsville are very very good battles on tactics of manuvers and troop placement.Kevin Chancellorsville I read either Sears or Ferguson Chancellorsville

| Senior Member | Thanks Kevin! Will have to look into it! There were many interesting stories. A Union General said a Confederate Sniper couldn't hit an elephant and right after that he was shot in the neck. His troops came over and he mumbled something, they couldn't hear but he said "Don't stand here." There was a stone there that said 'Don't stand here' on it. A Union Artillery offficer said open fire and at the same time a cannon ball hit him in the leg, he drug himself back to an aid station and cut his own leg off with a knife. A man didn't like Confederates so when he came for his water he hid the pump handle. Many more. Just the ones that really stood out to me. |

| Did you get to do any of the ghost tours? That whole area is supposed to be massively haunted. In fact, all the locals will tell you that if you watch the movie "Gettysburg" (excellent movie, BTW!!!), during the scene of Picket's Charge, the Confederate troops actually make it to the stone wall and engage in a little bit of hand-to-hand with Union troops, and are driven back. During the filming, there were a certain number of extras who were told to drop somewhere in the field. They did. A handful make it to the wall, fight, and retreat. During the editing of the movie, a massive wave of Confederates reach the wall and start fighting! But they weren't there in reality. The ghosts of those who died in the Charge had one last opportunity to make it to the wall, and they did. Or so the story goes.

| Senior Member | Thanks Guys! The actual site is really cool. When your actually there you really get the feel of what the Union was defending, why Gettysburg was important, and why Pickett's charge was a disaster. |

| Definately see the movie Gettysburg...and while you're at it, see the movie "Of Gods and Generals"... Be prepared though, Gettysburg is a long movie.
