Country: | Some pics of inspiration Enjoy.
I'm told that there is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy.25 in rural Iowa. For generations, kids have painted slogans, names, and obscenities on this rock, changing its character many times. A few months back, the rock received its latest paint job, and since then it has been left completely undisturbed. It's quite an impressive sight. Be sure to scroll down and check out the multiple photos (all angles) of the rock. I thought the flag was draped over the rock, but it's not. It's actually painted on the rock too.

Country: | 9-11 Truck
Trucker who has painted his cab and trailer with the names of all those who lost their lives in 9/11. The trucker's name is John Holmgren from Shafer, Minn. The trucker has been "pulled over" numerous times just so the troopers can get their picture taken with the truck.

Country: | Thanks guys. Also have this:
SLEEP LAST NIGHT? Bed a little lumpy... Toss and turn any... Wish the heat was higher... Maybe the a/c wasn't on... Had to go to the john... Need a drink of water...
the next time when...
the other car cuts you off and you must hit the brakes,
or you have to park a little further from Walmart than you want to be,
or you're served slightly warm food at the restaurant,
or you're sitting and cursing the traffic in front of you,
or the shower runs out of hot water,
Think of them... Protecting your freedom!

Country: | Njaco: Thanks alot for the pix! That rock is really a work of art and Ray is a hell of an artist. I've seen that truck too and it puts a lump in your throat. As for the last shots, you know some folks think that being tough is all about rolling around in the mud, the blood, and the beer. NO WAY!! Being tough is like these folks- being on the line and just "hacking it" day in and day out.

Country: | Thanks Doug. I come across these from time to time and this seemed a good place for them. Kinda puts things in perspective.

| This choked me up when I first saw it (up close and for real).
This is at the US Military cemetary in the Philipines.
The names of the MIA from the war in the Pacific took up a lot of space on the granite columns.

Country: | Perhaps one day we won't have to keep erecting memorials like these if the world comes to its senses, but some how I think that's a long way in the future all we seem able to do is think of more efficient was to destroy each other. |

Here SHE is, the USS NEW YORK!!!
It was built with 24 tons of scrap steel from the World Trade Center.
It is the fifth in a new class of warship - designed for missions that include special operations against terrorists. It will carry a crew of 360 sailors and 700 combat-ready Marines to be delivered ashore by helicopters and assault craft.
Steel from the World Trade Center was melted down in a foundry in Amite, LA to cast the ship's bow section. When it was poured into the molds on Sept. 9, 2003, "those big rough steelworkers treated it with total reverence," recalled Navy Capt. Kevin Wensing, who was there. "It was a spiritual moment for everybody there."
Junior Chavers, foundry operations manager, said that when the trade center steel first arrived, he touched it with his hand and the "hair on my neck stood up." "It had a big meaning to it for all of us," he said. "They knocked us down. They can't keep us down. We're going to be back."
The ship's motto? "Never Forget"

Country: | An Army soldier in Iraq with his tiny 'plot' of grass in front of his tent. Here is a soldier stationed in Iraq, stationed in a big sand box. He asked his wife to send him dirt (U.S. soil), fertilizer, and some grass seed so that he can have the sweet aroma, and feel the grass grow beneath his feet. When the men of the squadron have a mission that they are going on, they take turns walking through the grass and the American soil -- to bring them good luck.
