Country: | Yes Eric
I went there to give the camera and lens a try out, All three are roughly two thirds cropped at 200mm 160th f10 in normal jpg. I was quite happy with the results for a first attempt and upping to fine or raw should improve things a bit better still & once I've mastered the cameras controls of course.
Kens settings on the camera are a bit too vivid for me so I toned the colours down a tad in PshopCS3 but overall considering my lack of familiarity with the camera I think the kit worked well and should be enough for my needs for a few years. The VR is a doddle to use compared to the non damped lenses but I shall stick with the bigma as the long focal length VR's are incredibly pricey (could hire one I suppose).
This next test shots staturation is unaltered from Kens guide settings and I find the blues and reds a bit too strong what do you think Eric?

Country: | They are just a touch strong, but the detail on the ships wheel is fantastic. I dunno, I like the colors rich and warm like that. I know it's a matter of personal preference. One thing I use as a good gauge for these kinds of things is to convert it to black and white. If it really pops in monochrome, or even looks good in mono, it's good as is.

Country: | Thanks for your genorous comment WC. I think the owl was a bit of a primadonna and the black strip in the background spoilt it a bit.
Thats a good idea Eric thanks I'll take that onboard and give it a try next time.
I'll be joining rejoining the RPS via my local Photographic society in the fall and hope to pick up a few free tips. |

Country: | I have just returned from a 2 week break on the Island of Madeira.
Roman AKA Seesul suggested posting a few snaps (so you can blame him for me posting holiday pics )
Madeira is a volcanic Island and is the northern end of the Canary Island chain this year is the 500th anniversary of the Islands discovery by the Portugese it has a sub tropical climate and has many wild flowers.
The airport of Funchal clings to the side of the Island due to lack of available flat land.

Im happy with the D200 Eric It is enough for my needs
The first snap is of what I was told to be the second highest sea cliffs in the world they seemed pretty high to me at least.
The other cliffs are fairly much of what surrounds the whole Island and the bird of paradise flowers grow wild all over the place.
