A Visit to the Imperial War Museum London

I wasn't sure what category to put this under so that's why its here.
The Imperial War Museum is dedicated to 20th century and modern warfare.
I visited today and took some pictures but due to the large
amount of displays i was unable to see everything so this is
a taster.
The entrance is guarded by two 15inch navel guns
dating from 1915 each barrel weighs 100 tons and in their day where at the cutting edge of warfare technology.
the right hand gun spent its life on HMS Ramilles the left hand gun
was on HMS Resolution until 1938 it then was
put into storage until 1944 when it was mounted on the Lord Roberts
a shallow draught monitor it saw action on D-Day and in the
Walcheran islands as a close in shore bombardment platform.

I have a sub for you skim I'll post it a bit later, but first a Jagdpanther
It was knocked out in september 1944 by a Cromwell commanded by lieutenant W Griffiths near Hetchtel in Belgium.
Firing from a range of fifty yards his first shot hit the engine compartment he then fired three rounds into the crew compartment.
I am afraid I appear in some of the pictures to give scale to the exhibits

Nice shots Lee. The guns outside are huge! I plan on visiting it again at some point, if not this year the for sure early next year. When I was down last time visiting the IWM I spent 1 1/2 days and still didn't see everything, there is so much great stuff to see there. On a side note, what is the special exibition that is on at the moment? Last time a went down it was D-day (shows how long since I have been).

This is great.... I love this guided tour ****....

I have been on three Battleships in my years, and those guns are unreal... Its different when u look at a big gun in a turrent, but when theyre exposed like that, damn!!!

I am really digging the Jagdpanther shots u took..... Good on ya..

Somewhere in the UK is one that has been repaired and is now in working order. I think its the Submarine Museaum which I think is in Gosport. The only difference is that they are only allowed to use it on Battery Power.
There was a programme on TV about the repair which as you could imagine was some task.
