Country: | I heard (emphasize my recollection) that a proposal was for $600 single filing/$1200 joint + $300/kid for those up to $150k annual. Let's see... that means for those;
<$20k it will go to booze, cigarettes and drugs
$20-40k it will go towards daycare
$40-80k it will go towards living expenses/paying off debt
$80-150k it will go towards living expenses, toys and some savings
>$150k and these bastards can't be trusted to spend it, surely they would just invest it.
Brilliant plan. I say raise it $10k for everyone.

Country: | The kicker isn't the rebate from the Govt. Most people will use it to pay down debt. Bush did this earlier in his presidency and it is more a feel good thing than anything else.
The part that is going to matter is raising the limit on FHA approved loans to over 729K. The rebate is window dressing.
However, given the .75 drop in the prime, coupled with the FHA, it will definitely help housing. For those who can't afford it and have already bought with questionable loans, it makes no difference. They are in deep do-do and it's not going to get better. But for people looking, and who are able to go through a much stricter loan process (that doubtless is the case now), the market is looking much better.
That is going to be the kicker, the real money maker.
Not sure it is a wise move by the Govt but there it is. |

Country: | To be honest, between this rebate and my tax returns I might look to re-fi my house. We don't have a bad interest rate and got out of an ARM the minute they started going up.
I could stiff f*#k with them and just put it in the bank!!

Country: | I guess they think everybody is going to run out and buy a new TV or
Fridge or something like that, to stimulate the economy. Mine will go
right into the bank....... rainy day money !

Country: | Either way you look at it, I'll take MY $600 dollars back and do with it as I please and not have some Gov't Beaurocrat to dump it into some Pork/earmark project that is un-neaded. |

Problem is Buck, it ain't your $600. Your $600 is already gone, wasted by your gov't building bridges to nowhere and other cr@p like that. The $600 that you will be getting is borrowed from the Chinese!

Country: | That may be true Freebird, but the point is, if they think this is going to stimulate the economy (it won't), I'll still take it back as a symbol of my being overtaxed in the first place and how much Government waste there is in this country. |
