This happened this week in the town next to me...

CLAYTON,NJ - More than 200 mourners carrying both umbrellas and American flags streamed into St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church on Friday to honor a young man many call a hero. U.S. Army Pfc. David J. Bentz III, 20, was killed in Iraq on June 20. ...Among the veterans' groups represented at the funeral were the Last Patrol, the Patriot Guard Riders, the South Jersey Vietnam Veterans and the Semper Fidelis Marine Corps League Detachment. ....Not only did the veterans come to honor Bentz, but also to protect his family against unwanted demonstrators who picketed the funeral from farther down the road on Delsea Drive. Words of hate coming from three members of the Kansas-based Westboro Baptist Church, an organization that believes God is punishing the U.S. for its acceptance of homosexuality, were drowned out by veterans who recited the Pledge of Allegiance and revved their motorcycle engines. ....

The article went on to discuss how the Federal Government recognizes the Westboro Baptist Church as a hate group. My question... if you're a recognized hate group and you act on that hate (as these idiots surely do) why were and are they not arrested? I thought there were criminal codes for "hate crimes" which I would place what they do at military funerals as violations. This goes beyond religous freedom and free speech.

These people seriously need to be thrown into jail. I love the bill of rights and free speach but sometimes it goes to far.

Ever since they started doing this a few years ago I really wanted to beat the living **** out of all of them.

I may ask this? But since when does it guaranttee under free speach the right to violate some one elses right to mourne a family member at a funeral. Freedom of Speach doesn't give you the right to be a right prick to some one else. And as I am a committed Christian (some just say I should be committed any way) God punishes us in his way. And definitely God would not use the punishment at a funeral to make a bizzare political point. It appears the Westboro Baptist Church has forgotten more than one thing from a teaching of Jesus Christ and placed themselves above God's adorned laws of forgiveness and tolerance for others. I can assure you God would not be favouring Westboro Baptist Church in their actions. I will refrain from what I think about homsexuality. But I was brought up to firmly believe that people have the right to their grief and their mourning in privacy and dignity for any family member what ever the situation of their death and eventualy funeral etc. Its called common decency and respect for others. Sadly lacking in today socities of the ME GENERATION of dimwits and poltroons and also definitely I wouldn't be picketing a funeral of a homosexual either for the same above reasons. Common Decency and respect for the persons family etc
