Anti Whaling in the Australian AntArtic Territory. Claims of Racism by Japan Towards

Over the last 34 years as most on this forum know. Whaling has been banned commercially since 1964. Japan Norway Russia and Iceland have conducted Whaling at a limited catch and size. But the Japanese have labelled their Whaling is scienctific research and have taken 1000 Minke Whales from the Australian Antarctic Territory. This area is governed by Australia and is recognised as a Sanctury by the United Nations for not only Whales but also SeaLions Sea Birds Penguins Aquatic Life of all types including Krill and other Aquatic Sea Life.

The Japanese in their own particular fashion have countered that they have a perfect right to poach Whales under the guise of Research to hunt Whales in the Southern Ocean and to continue this research in the Australian Antartic Territory and use loopholes under the International Whaling Commission guidelines.

It has become in Australia and Japan a political hotbed of the Japanese accusing Australia of racism towards Japan and Japanese Culture on the issue of Anti Whaling debate. Australia has contended that the issue is about Whaling not racism. And recently since the organisation Sea Shepard and its boat Steve Irwin came into contact with a Japanese Whaling Vessel and managed to put 2 Anti Whaling Protesters on board the Japanese Whaling Vessel the rhetoric has become more extreme and heated

The Japanese have accused Australians as being hypocritical in areas like The Cull of Kangaroos Dingos Aboriginal Debates and the treatment of Aborigines over the last 220 years and also the Cronulla Riot which took place in 2005 to enhance their claim of Racist Australia. Australians have generally rebuffed these claims of Racism and see it as a smoke screen by Japan to continue Whaling. And many Australians including myself see Japan as not only hypocritical but are poaching Whales under the guise of research.

2 days ago the Australian Customs Vessel Oceanic Viking took photos and videos of the killing of 2 Minke Whales a mother and calf and the Australian Government is gathering evidence of Japanese Whaling to take to the International Court to dispute Japan's Claim of scientific research.

And a video posted on Youtube which inflamed the debate further from some unknown source in Japan accusing Australia of Racism Hypocracy Exenophobia and Anti Asian Sentiment has done nothing to calm the issues of this debate

My idea of animal research involves capturing, measuring, photographing, tagging, blood samples and then RELEASING them back into their natural environment.

No idea Wayne but its ridiculous by the Japanese to accuse any one of Racism. Considing their past and also their current attitudes in Japan to the Ainu Buraku Okinawans Koreans Chinese and other races that live in Japan. And the International Movement Against All Forms of Discrimination and Racism (Report IMADR) from Doudou Diene in 2005 and 2007. And such articles appearing of businesses in Japan discriminating against Non Japanese which contrevenes the UN Convention Race Discrimination 1996 which Japan is a Signitory to and in the Japanese Constitution Article 14 which bans Racial Discrimination. And also the Japanese Family Law Court which also discriminates against Non Japanese Parents in Custodial Battles and ignores International Court Orders and Child Custodial Orders from other countries

I'm no greenie but I'd like to see a stop to this so called "scientific research" and it kinda pisses me that they think they can come into our waters and do whatever they like, while at the same time the Gov spends millions on enforcing illegal fishing by Indonesians in the North. If it's illegal for the Indonesians, it should be the same for the Japanese.

I hope you two guys from Adelaide haven't been affected, directly or indirectly, by the Mitsubishi plant closure. Very sad images of distressed workers and their families seen on the news on this side of the border.

Also hope Queensland is starting to dry out Emac.

I agree Graeme. yes Queensland is drying out. But we did need the rain. I am not a Greenie either but with the video clips in Youtube and this constant accusations by infantile minded Japanese about Racism in Australia to my mind is a smokescreen on the Whaling Debate. And I agree I don't want Japanese Whaling Vessels in our WATERS. My wife told me that Japanese Fishing Vessels often poach in Filippine Waters and nothing happens, yet the Japanese arrest Filippino Fishermen in Japanese Waters who poach. Seems the Japanese have a system of Bigotry all of their own and HYPOCRACY unmatched any where in the world

Sorry but this is all just a sad joke. 1000 whales killed for research? They are an arrogant hypocritical bunch the Japanese, the Aus government should do something about it. Send your Navy to seize the ships, and let them protest in court if they like. It's Australian territory, let them prove that they need to kill 1,000 whales for research. They may actually have the legal right under some goofy UN law, but a huge incedent like that would bring them bad publicity.

The japanese love eating anything that swims, and have outfished their own waters so bad they have to go further afield. Anything they say to the contrary is just a load of crap.

When I was working on Kapiti Island in NZ we used to see Japanese, Russian, and Korean fishing boats fishing the protected reserves at night. They would fish as normal till they hit the border, turn off all their lights while in there so as not to be seen from the mainland, then turn them back on an hour later when they'd reached the other side. These bastards will try every trick in the book.
We used to wait on the north end of the island, and flash our version of morse code with our torches at them - you should see the panic it caused on board, till the captain would decide it's nothing, and set them back to work.

It'll take more than heavy legislation to stop those bastards, I tell ya.

Things i can see right with what Japan is doing
1) They like whales and like to eat them we do the same with god knows how many animals here the trick is moderation which they have clearly not used because they have out fished their own waters.

Things i disagree with.
1) Doing it in our waters, dont piss off
2)The only sort or research they are doing is to see how they die

On the whole i think they should piss off back to their own waters and stop fishing everyone elses.
