You've said it's gotten better since the WC, but is having intense German pride and nationalism still somewhat taboo today Chris?

Country: | When I next see my friend, who is a police officer, I will ask him the exact law. I know it can be under a Public Order act.

Country: | Meanwhile, we are OBLIGED to plaster that ridiculous European Union rag here there and everywhere. I didn't vote for it - nobody even asked me - so they can p*ss off!
In France, (where I live, remember) they've made it obligatory to have the EU flag on car registration plates. I refuse to. I don't carry political insignia unless I choose to. Take me to court!

Country: | What is going on in this world? I'm gonna start believing the conspiracy theorists about One World Order before long. What a sad state of affairs.

Country: | It's a hangover of Europe being run by Emperors, Kings and Princes for a couple thousand years that there is an Us/Them mentality. There is a percieved "ruling class". Formerly, they were the royals. Now it is more based on education but there is a still an element of royalty in it.
The ruling classes make the decisions and the people of the country go along with it. Some times (maybe many times), the people are against the idea. Such as with the Vote for the EU in France. They didn't like it in the first place and experience has show it to be little more than another layer of beaurocratic clowns on top of the 5 layers they have to deal with at present.
But the really slick way the EU handles the masses not aligning with their political ideal is to just keep voting when a vote does not go their way. When a vote goes the way they want it, it is set in stone. When it does not, they wait a bit and vote again. In short, even with most of the peoples of Europe thinking the EU sucks, it will not go away.
Personally, I don't think the EU will survive in it's present state. As it is now, it is a luxury. The question is what happens when one of the Soverign states decides to challenge the power of the EU. They do it already by ignoring budget rules. But when one wants to go it's own way, what will happen. Or when two countries in the EU get miffed at each other. |

Country: | The sooner the EU collapses as a governing body; the better. That's all I can say on the EU.

Country: | In my honest opinion the EU was nothing more than a power grab by the French and Germans. Mostly by the French. Those poor countries without the political clout and bureaucratic infrastructure will be nothing more than pawns in a powerplay. I'm heartened to hear that even the French are now rejecting the EU and the constitution.

Country: | hey Guys, noted on last night's news that the organisers basically did an embarrassing back flip on the Aussie flag issue at the Big Day out. As it turned out many Aussies went with Flags anyway...flags all shapes and sizes, t-shirts with flags on them, tattoos etc.etc. any way they could to defy the stupidity of such a statement, everyone apparently had a good time and there were no problems.
No doubt the BDO in Adelaide this coming week will see many flags flying again... |

I'm more shocked at the fact that you lot haven't realised that it's ILLEGAL to wave the St. George or Union Jack in Great Britain.
| I am shocked.

Country: | I'm glad to see such intelligent comments about the EU ( = you agree with me! ) The EU is nothing more than a new attempt by France to gain the power it lost in 1815 and all points since. When you listen to the French talking, whatever their social or political leanings, you quickly realize that the words "France" and "Europe" can be swopped over without changing the meaning of the message one jot. For example, we have just suffered another barrage of "One foreign policy" propaganda from the French, which conveniently overlooks the fact that in the present 25 country EU, the majority of countries supported, actively or passively, Allied intervention in Iraq. If France is in the minority, why should the French believe they have the right to dictate policy to the rest of us? S*d them.
I was invited to a dinner by a French ex-paras association some years ago, and the guest speaker was some top Frog general who'd ben around a bit (although he never actually achieved much when he was there!), and the discussion turned to the EU, unified European command, WEU, etc. I asked if he didn't feel that the way the EU is being jammed down our throats without anyone even asking us what we think about it (I'm British, so I have never been asked), would not end up generating potentially terrorist "Freedom" movements such as we can see here and there, all over the world, when the people find themselves ruled by foreign powers they did not choose. I've never seen someone change the subject so fast! INDEPENDENCE FOR THE UK!

Country: | As for the EU the German people do not want it. Some may have thought it was a good idea at first, but they want it gone now. It has done nothing but screw everything up.
