Country: | Lucky, the Southern Cross is a star formation common to the southern hemisphere. It is found on the Aus, NZ and PNG flags. It has significance down here "great sothern land.." etc.., even though it would also be seen in South America and South Africa.
The Eureka flag was born out of an uprising by gold miners in the state of Victoria in 1854. An increase in license fees caused unrest, and a seige of the goldminer's stockade enused by the Gold Commission police, who were reinforced by a garrison of soldiers. About 500 miners burned their licences and took an oath on the flag. 22 miners and 5 soldiers died duting the seige. The flag is a sort of de facto emblem of the Australian Republican movement. The majority of Australians want a republic, but squabbling over its formation lead to a defeat at the last referendum.
Cheers,
Steve

Country: | I just heard the the Austalian Shopping Malls were banning Santa Clauses from saying "HO HO HO" as it scared children. They are not to say Hi Hi Hi in a subdued voice.
I though this was a joke at fist, but then looked it up an it seems to be true. And I thought we in the US were on the fore front of this kind of thing. |

Country: | One source here believes 'Ho' or 'Hoe'(?) is rappers slang for 'whore' and is therefore also offensive to adults?! Over to the Americans...true/false?
(Did I spell that right, 'rapper' as in music?) |

Country: | You're right, in the hip-hop/rap/pimp world ho is used to refer to whores or often just females in general.
As far as I'm concerned, any adult who would find the term offensive in the context of Santa Claus is a freakin' moron with nothing better to do than look for some reason to be offended and then screw it up for everybody else. There's a cartload of these idiots in this country. Sorry to hear they're down under as well. |

Country: | I figured that was reasoning, 'y0'!
Its overall pretty pathetic. Extremes of society at the moment. People who make the 'jackass' movies find commerical success but Santa can't say hello.

Country: | A spade is not necessary a spade here in the looney US. A spade can be a garden tool. A Ho, is not a Hoe. But a Hoe can be a Whore. This is especially true if you don't pass third grade english, wear fatman's pants with the waste around your thighs, use one hand to hold them up at all times, turn your baseball hat 45 degrees off center, 75% of your vocabulary consists of expeletives and you dream of 'poppin a cap in someones @ss' as a life accomplishment.

Until now. | Wasn't there also an Aussie - Airborne guy that wanted to re-arrange the whole site layout on his third day?
strange, because the layout here is excellent, compared to some other sites...
