Country: | Australian Navy Report From BBC Over the last 24 hours the British Broadcasting Commission (BBC) has released a report that Iranian Gun Boats had tried some weeks before kidnapping Australian Military personal in and around the same area as the 15 British Military was kidnapped in March 2007
It appears the Iranians had tried to board Australian Navy vessels in the Gulf after the Australians had boarded and inspected suspect ships in the Persian Gulf. The Australians had leveled machine guns and apparently used colourful language against the Iranians. The Iranians apparently backed off. Not sure if it was because of the language used by the Australians or having 50 calibre machine guns levelled at them which ensured that no kidnap plot took place by the Iranians. It appears the BBC is headlining this aspect and wondering why the Royal Navy had not adopted a similar approach as used by the Royal Australian Navy |

Country: | Good for the Australians. Bummer for the Brits.
Maybe BBC is asking a decent question, for once. Relax the ROE so their people have laditude to react. |

Country: | The whole British episode was a balls up from start to finish, no close air or sea support a couple of glorified pedalos show up with some rag head shooters on board and it turned into a farce, should have been bang bang good night man. |

Country: | Must be Track the Royal Navy is more polite than Royal Australian Navy. I can imagine being an Aussie what my fellow countrymen said to those Iranians. Words like." HEY R--HEAD YOU WANT A 50 Calibre Labotomy. Now **** off Arsehole. etc etc. Can assure you Track that those Iranians would have been shocked no end. And I changed that R__HEAD NAME IN CASE I OFFEND SOME ONES SENSIBILITIES

Close contact and PC are opposites of each other. Put enough rules in and kill the initiative, support and even the ability to respond. One of the guys in the RN actually made a statement about being worried about causing an international incident. S---w that! His mission and ROE should be clear enough so that question is never even in his head.
The guys in charge, way up the ladder, put those guys (the RN) out there with a very confusing mission. Do this, don't do that, heavens- don't even think of the other thing, blah, blah, blah. The Australians got much clearer orders. Board, Search, defend yourself if needed.
The lack of character is at the top, it filtered down to the troops in the case of the RN. Opposite case for the Australians. |

Country: | I couldn't believe it either FBJ. when I saw it on the news today had to watch it twice to make sure it was correct and had not misheard it. And here is the link to Sky News Australia. it appears it occured in 2004 not few weeks before RN problem. So you can read it for yourself Sky News: Iran standoff

Country: | I feel really sorry for lots of our guys they are good quality soldiers, sailors & airman but have some right ponce's higher up and always have had. The upper class syndrome is alive and well in the UK and as usual the lower deck swabs have to take the can for it. All this bollocks about everyone was in the same boat in the UK during the war is tosh if you had the connections or the money you could still buy the best food and Champagne even at the height of the blitz, while the majority of ordinary people made do with spam, dried eggs and dripping on toast (mind you I like dripping on toast) |

Country: | No doubt Track. However I still admire the English when they get rightly pissed off about something regardless of the UPPER CLASS TOSSERS mate. And don't you dare disagree with me Track or I will use my colourful language with you haha |
