Country: | Australian Outback could become a 'nuclear dump' Plan put forward by ex-PM as he believes the Outback is the safest place on earth to keep it. I'm sure there are others - Sibera/Mongolia/Sahara? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/4290384.stm
Personally I don't think that this is the best idea and funnily enough the aboriginal leaders are not too keen and thankfully neither is the current Aussie administration.
Discuss.

Country: | Bob Hawke - what a dickhead. I can't believe he is willing to turn his OWN country into a f**king toxic waste dump! It never ceases to amaze me what people will do to make money. He claims it will be a great source of income for the country, maybe, but what a price the beautiful outback would have to pay. I wonder if he has even thought this proposal out? what about the important tourism money the country would lose? I can't imagine seeing a nuclear dumping ground would be very high on anybody's "places to see" list! Luckily I can't see this idea going ahead, in the past other dickhead politicians have put this idea forward and all have failed. Why do alot of politicians lack common sence? Why would anyone want to destroy this beautiful country and its unique creatures? I guess the answer is money, people will do anything for the right price, this I find very disturbing.

Country: | I would probably make it look better if it was filled with nuke waste.

Country: | I thought I read recently that the Australians also had a huge amount of Uranium ore that may be going up on the market soon. Scary.

| problem #1 for Uranium is the LONG time till it reaches 1/2 life (something like 21,000 years to become lead)....
problem #2 is the transporation of said Uranium, with security....it's already processed and easy make's a dandy 'dirty bomb' material and can easily be compromised in the transportation.
Question: how many nuc reactors do the Aussie's have? (I don't know) |

Country: | Only one that I know of. And to answer your question Med, I don't think anyone will ever know the full effects of the nuclear testing done here, the Government has, and still is very quiet on the full details.
