I love being American and am proud to death of being an American, but I find that a lot of Americans are clueless on what goes on outside of their borders. They get mad at people from other countries judging the United States, but Americans are just as guilty of it. You see it on this forum every day.
Just an example of what I read on this forum every day:
The average American has so much contempt that he throws "Western European Socialism" (and I am not for socialism) in the same cup as Communism. I read it every day here on this forum. I find it very disturbing and like to think they are just scared of what they don't know or understand.
In the end it does not give Americans a very good showing, considering Western Europe is so far removed from Communism...
But if you try and explain that it is different to an American, they get all bent out of shape. It is no different than what we see in the Bush Bashing threads here by people from other nations outside of the US. | A very good post Adler, obviously living in Germany has given you a good perspective.
I sure hope that the US & Europe are able to work together better during the next administration, as there are too many enemies for us to be squabbling among ourselves.

Country: | Yet it is also interesting that the recent leadership changes in Europe and pronouncably more pro-US. Just look at the new leadership in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, etc. Quite a change from the prior leaders.

I think the problems of illegal immigration & Islamic Radicals have given a wake-up call to those 2 countries.

| Just heard somewhere a good take on this. I would rather have Islamic radicals than mainstream Islamists. Muslims living in the US or UK, making a living, contributing to society and living peaceful are radical. The mainstream Islamics live on hatred, punish rape victims and on and on and on.

Yeap the problem is that if the price was 10 Deutsch Mark it is is now 10 Euro which is 20 Deutsch Mark. But if you made 2000 Deutsch Mark before you now make 1000 to 1200 Euro now. which is about the same as what you made before.
Whenever you go shopping you think in DM. For instance this shirt is 20 Euro which is 40 DM. Damn that is expensive, I am not going to buy it because the shirt used to cost 20 DM... | It's the same here. Every time I have to multiply the prices by 2.2 to understand what it really costs in guilders

Country: | Woah, using that kind of language might be a bit offensive to some around here. I know its a rough bunch, but being blatant might get ya kicked off.
