Country: | Boeing and Airbus go toe-to-toe at WTO Who remembers the debate about subsidies to Airbus from the EU which prompted a certain member to state how he wanted the A380 to fail because it was unfair.
When challenged the member continually tried to defend the U.S saying it was completely fair and open for free trade. Oh...really?
Read about the WTO accusations here against both Boeing and Airbus - on top of that read near the bottom about Export Taxes...

Country: | I think it goes way deeper than both sides wish to admit but I wish the best for Airbus. Even though this is funny here:

Country: | I think the whole thing is hogwash! The money the state of Washington allegedly gives Boeing is basically tax breaks and in my opinion "blood money" to keep Boeing in Washington. Does EADS or BAE pay property taxes on the land their facilities are located? To Say that Boeing is making money on defense contracts and that counts as a subsidy is rubbish as well. What about the defense industry profits made by EADS and BAE?
What should be done is let the best aircraft win and offset the purchase with subcontract work. Everyone wins!

Country: | Agreed.
I think the A-380 is a great plane but I think it is a step in the wrong way. I think Boeing is going the write way with a smaller but more economical aircraft in there Dreamliner.

Country: | Airbus are releasing one similar to the 787 though - they're going both ways. (If anyone says "like a bi-sexual" I'll kick them).
I think both the U.S and E.U know this is pointless - that's why they're so determined to keep it out of the WTO - or were.

Country: | I could tell you this - at most airports in the US the -380 would be illegal under current TSA laws (They're the ones providing security at airports). The way I understand the current law, you cannot use double exits that are more than 100' from each other. Could you imagine a full -380 and everyone exiting from one exit!
I do know that US operators interested in the -380 are attempting to change this. Where Airbus may have a foothold in the US is old McDonnell Douglas operators are still pissed at Boeing for ending the DC-11 lines. United and American liked the aircraft, but it was a competitor to Boeing even though they bought the line. Fed-Ex actually sued over it and I know United is still pissed. Its going to be interesting to see.....

Country: | I think the proof of the pudding is going to be in the eating and to be honest although I think the A380 is an impressive aircraft I have never liked flying in the larger airliners mearly as I find the terminal crowds at either end too much of a pain in the butt . They all pour down the walk ways at the same time jam up Pass port control.
As the US/UK ect has clamped down tighter on the immigration checks ect you could be there for hours as they proccess that number of passangers, at least with a smaller plane processing is more bareable.

Country: | I think the aircraft is impressive and I really wish Airbus the best of luck with it however I still think the aircraft is going in the wrong direction. Plus can you imagine one of those things with a full load of passengers going down?

Country: | While I agree that a fully loaded 380 going down would be bad, I can imagine that the same was said when the 747 came out. The 747 has a pretty good safety record, all in all. Could you imagine how smooth a ride that would be though?
I flew in a 747 coast to coast many years ago and I have flown transatlantic flight on 747s. They are a really smooth ride. Compare that ride to a DC-9, which feels turbulence when a cow farts. I think the 380, because of it's size and wing surface would be more stable, like the 747 and give a smoother ride.
