Adler I agree with your feelings - it's one of the biggest problems when you just feel like they are all marketing a product to you - then once in power are interested in only the preservation of such. I do have to believe, though, that there are members of our gov't that actually believe in public service... it just all seems to get lost in the daily happenings of Washington DC politics...

Country: | Can't remember who said this, but he was terribly clever. The simple fact of wanting to become President should prove that you are in fact unsuitable for the job, and cause you to be barred from becoming a candidate! Or words to that effect.

Country: | Words of wisdom. Who in their right mind would aspire all their life for that position?

Country: | No actually I think I got it right. Any man smart enough, wise enough, hard working enough, compassionate enough, would not be a career politician. Should not be a career politician.

Country: | Seems also to take incredible arrogance to think that you alone are the one best able to run a country of 300 million people!

Country: | Political threads ALWAYS get ugly. Mostly because neither side will accept that the other has the right to their view, no matter how annoying they find it.

| I agree with everybody, one needs to be wary of who's running for office. I would like to see another Goldwater. He was the best.
Anyway I believe that there are some people who have the integrity for the job of senator, congressman, or president.
I've heard one of the senators from Alabama is very good!

| There is nothing wrong with anyone desiring the chance of being president.
That is the essence of democracy (and I know we are a republic, so dont b***).
On occasion we get some excellent Presidents.
And if there is one amazing facet of the US political system, is the worse the problem or issue, the better the President thatg ets elected.
How else can you explain FDR being around for the Depression and WW2...... Lincoln for the civil war...., Reagan (Ronaldus Magnus to some of us) for the cold war.
And it also explains why we have turkeys like Carter and Clinton during quiet times.

| Syscom, YOU live in a republic. I don't want to; the good thing about a monarchy is that the top person is not obliged to prostitute themselves before the unthinking, who get their opinions from such impeccable sources as the Star or the Sun, and can therefore, without fear of electoral consequences, speak freely and say what needs to be said. You are not obliged to agree with them, and sometimes they are ridiculed as a result, but at least they always give a truly-held opinion.
And if you get a few excellent presidents, by the law of averages I don't suppose you can get it wrong all the time. We usually do - look at Blair!
