'Jackass' Layton would like our troop's mission in Afghanistan to be converted into a UN Peacekeeping one. In other words, not equipped to fight. He seems to think that blue berets and helmets will stop Taliban roadside bombs and gunfire. He'd make our troops easier targets.

Sorry what do you mean by that exactly? What "actual workings" are you referring to?

I certainly have a good understanding of the political ramifications that are involved with military funding. I'm not an expert in aircraft systems obviously, but I trust the top military experts who seem to be in agreement that the Sea Kings are long overdue for a replacement. Also that Canada's transport capabilities are inadequate for our missions, when we have to beg, borrow or rent space from other nations. In Afganistan Canada does not have it's own "organic" air support, we rely on the Dutch or Americans or someone else IIRC, not the ideal situation certainly.

I am of the opinion that our military has been underfunded for many years, {in relation to what they are expected to do} during the Liberal tenure, do you disagree with this?

Are you saying they were adequatly funded during the 90's?

Sure, I would be happy to take over command of the Afganistan mission, and I would be willing to make do with ONLY 4 Canadian Aircraft Carriers....

The point I was making was that our Liberal government was happy to send/retain our troops to help out in all of these places {Afganistan, Indian Ocean, Cyprus, Haiti etc} but not willing to pay the costs. We pay far less as % of GDP than the USA, we have a better economic situation, so there is no excuse to be cheap on the military.

I understand that the Military never gets all it wants, but with our supply ships and helicopters many years if not decades past replacement dates, it's poor support of our military.

I got polled tonight by telephone regarding our upcoming Canadian election [I think it might have been an NDP backed poll judging from the questions]
and many of my answers made the young guy on the other end go silent or giggle nervously. He's probably never heard so much negative regard for our political leaders in his life. He's likely young and idealistic.....but he'll out grow it if he's really paying attention.

I'm now checking out whether any of these chumps I'm supposed to be voting for have ever had a job getting their hands dirty or flipped a burger or something like that. They claim to all be speaking for the working guy now to find out which ones actually worked

I guess the Lib-Left really opened their wallets this time. I think the more you see him the more you realize what a huckster he is.
Too many non-thinkers believe in him.
