Country: | Yeap especially DC. I remember when me and my wife spent a week in DC right when I got back from Iraq and boy was it insane. The seafood that I bought in DC was twice as expensive as the seafood I got in South Carolina a week later. The hotels were twice as expensive, etc...

I was not saying that below 150k your life is hell in US, but that up to that income life is a bit better in I,F,D. Say that, given 100 you quality of life in US with that income, you are probably 105-110 in the other countries I mentioned.
But if your family income is 50k, you can definitely manage better in Italy than in US.
Going up in the income, in US you have better quality, because of a less nosy Government, lower fiscal pressure and other things. But of course this does not means that in France your life is bad with a $300k income!

I see what you are saying. BUt I can also honestly say that if I had a $300k income, I could live well, just about anywhere!

That being said, things are becoming more and more privatized anyway. The well of socialized healthcare is beginning to dry up. It has been for quite a few years now, actually. | |
