Child sex offender walking free- your view

There has been a huge amount of publicity all over Australia recently about convicted child sex offender Dennis Furguson walking free, after serving 14 years for the abduction, rape and torture of several young girls.

He has been forced out of a number of towns and many people think he does not deserve a second chance. Others however, say his life is being made hell by the media attention and protests.

I am interested the hear the oppinion of others on this matter.

Daily occurrences here.
Just yesterday a serial rapist was arrested again after he raped a 3 year old. He was only imprisoned for 8months for raping a 6 year old girl. (Here in South Africa the believe is that if you rape little girls and white ladies, you’ll be cured of AIDS)

The same for the murderers, robbers, hijackers.

The person than came up with the idea that the death sentence is barbaric....maybe I should leave the comment for myself

Our premier has proposed that we give them chemicle castoration and then let them out when they have served their time....
Personally i think a 7.62 goin' 'bout 2000 fps would be easier and cheaper and better in the long run, after all they cant do it again after that.

There are two schools of thought on this sort of thing. One side will say, he's
paid his debt to society, and should be let out...... to roam among the people
[children ?].

The other side will say he has a mental problem, and should be incarcerated
for the rest of his life. And now a "board" can certify him as having a mental
problem, and he's transferred from prison to a mental facility, where he will
spend the rest of his life.

The question is does the felon have any rights ?

This is a hard call, and most people let their emotions get in the way of
sound judgement.

I think any child molester should receive the death penalty. That way it's all
over, and there's no "if" factor left in the equation.

It is my understanding that pedophiles never change. Once you get it (whatever the hell "it" is), you never lose it. If that is true, it is only a matter of time before he goes and does it again.

If everything I wrote above is true, who is really responsible for the next rape committed by this guy? The guy, or the people who released him?

Absolutely right Charles!

If he touched my kid, he'd be dead already!

Nicely worded Charles.

This touches me too close to home has I have gone through this twice now.

1. He did do 14 years. It should have been life, plus mandatory chemical castration.
2. I'm sure his 14 years was not fun as prisoners are ruthless on child molesters. GOOD!!!!
3. Somehow, prisoners find out. I was watching "Locked up" on tv and they were interviewing this phycho killer. Behind the reporter and camera man, you could hear prisoners saying, "Sam on the floor, Sam on the floor." The reporter asked the killer what that was all about. The killer said, "Oh, new prisoner." The reporter said, "and his name is Sam?" The killer said, "No, Sam mean Sexual Assault on a Minor. We will take care of him later."
4. I pray you don't ever have to go through what I have been through with my daughter. I'm sure everyone reacts differently. Yes, I had rage and the desire to rip his heart out, but all that changed to concern over making sure my daughter was ok.

It is a tough subject to right, but this tends to get caught up in beurocratic bullcrap and we get people saying "nobody deserves the death penalty" fantastic stick him in the slammer where he not only costs the goverment thousands if he is in there for any great deal of time but he also poses a threat to the community when he is let out. However if this castoration did work then it might be an alternative....

One of my best friends was molested by his swimteacher in his childhood - and I can personally say that i would probably chop of his nuts if I never saw him.

Furthermore - it IS mental - many/most childmolesters do not see it as if they are doing anything wrong and will often claim that their victims "wanted it" . Most if not all doctors agree that it is an uncurable condition - and while sterilisation would hinder them in performing intercourse - it will not hinder them in other sexual acts.

I dont ever think the death penalty is ever a solution - mainly because no justicesystem is perfect and as such there will always be innocent people (no matter how few) who will then be executed by their own government. The same could be said for forced sterilisation. I think that lifetime in "special" jails or homeconfinement is the best solution to the matter.

Agreed 100%

To me there is nothing lower than a child sex offender.

agree however "special homes" would cost the goverment thousands to maintain, and how would you make sure they stayed in home detention that would all cost money killing is a far cheaper and simpler method and it would act as a deterant.
