| You have a point there. If theres one thing the people of China seem to enjoy is they finally have stability in their lives. As long as they keep getting richer, they dont care what happens in Beijing.
But once things slow down in the economy, look for fingers to be pointing and head to be rolling.

Country: | Considering they wounded my father and killed several of his friends, I'd have to say he wouldn't think them an imagined threat. Like the Russians in WW II against Germany, they would mass troops and overrun positions regardless of the loss of life during the Korean conflict. They gave help to Viet Nam during that war and I sort of think we got whipped there. Korea and Viet Nam weren't that long ago, and they've got more people and better weapons than they did during those conflicts. I must still consider them a very real threat.

| Vietnam was 30 years ago. times have changed, and just because they supported vietnam way back then, doesnt mean they would again.

It was not a pretty site and the Chinese did not roll over their one time ally!!!

Country: | The big question would be whether the politicians would give up because of anti-war demonstraters. The worst thing that could happen would be another Vietnam where we pull out and the country we're helping gets taken over or another Korea where we're both watching each other in an uneasy truce

Country: | I think once a war with China started it would have to be finished.

Country: | But I honestly believe that if we do go to war with China, it will be a hard sell to the American people. Even if China invades Taiwan, I think a lot of people will not be willing to sacrifice American lives for Taiwan.

| If the PRC did invade Taiwan, the shipping lanes in that part of the world going to and from Japan/Korea/China would be shut down. Just the threat of not having oil going to Japan would be enough to bring that country into the fight.
You could say the same thing if its ASEAN vs PRC in the Spratleys.
One thing were not taking seriously is the PRC's intention to fight using asymetric warfare. Why take on the most powerfull military in the world when the result is inevitable destruction to your hardware, when you can use computer and economic warfare to accomplish the same results.
I do not fear the PRC having an aircraft carrier and a couple of wings of modern jet aircraft. I do fear them unleashing "hordes" of hackers to cripple our industry.

Country: | I agree evengilder. However I believe that if China were to invade it would be more of a global effort to fight them.

Country: | As we know Pakistan has been purchasing military aircraft from the PRC for a long time. I recently read an article where about a dozen F-7 Defenders were being delivered. According to the article there was something majorly wrong with each one of the new fighters. I'll try to find the article.

Country: | That I can believe. I was always wondering about Chinese engineering when it comes to aircraft.
