Colorado Students Walk Out During Pledge, Recite Own Version

Boulder, CO has become the Rocky Mountain version of San Francisco, CA

Thursday, September 27, 2007

BOULDER, Colo. — About 50 Boulder High School students walked out of class Thursday to protest the daily reading of the Pledge of Allegiance and recited their own version, omitting "one nation, under God."

The students say the phrase violates the constitutional separation of church and state.

TO's comment to the far-left nuts in Boulder: THERE IS NOTHING IN THE CONSTITUTION THAT SPEAKS TO THE "SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE"

They also say the daily reading of the pledge over the school public address system at the start of the second class takes away from education time and is ignored or mocked by some students.

A state law passed in 2004 requires schools to offer the opportunity to recite the pledge each day but does not require students to participate.

The protesting students, members of the Student Worker Club, want administrators to hold the pledge reading in the auditorium during each of the school's two lunch periods for any students who want to participate.

Otherwise, they said, they plan to walk out each Thursday when the pledge is read and recite their version, which omits the reference to God and adds allegiance to constitutional rights, diversity and freedom, among other things.

"Boulder High has a highly diverse population, not all of whom believe in God, or one God," said Emma Martens, a senior and president of the club, which has about a dozen members.

"We didn't think it was fair for the whole school to have to listen to it. It's almost religious oppression," she said.

Principal Bud Jenkins told the Camera newspaper on its Web site Thursday the pledge will not be moved, but added he was proud of the students for standing up for their beliefs.

It was not immediately clear what discipline, if any, the protesting students would face.

*** Looks like many of the hippies from the late 60s, early 70s and their offspring have settled in Boulder.

Me and TO are old enought to remember saying the pledge in class, and
were proud to do it. These idiots should move to Cuba.... then they'll
know what "a right" is.

Absolutely correct Charles. We were (and still are) proud. I can still remember standing in the classroom with my hand over my heart, and I didn't take my eyes off the flag for a second as I recited the pledge. I've instilled the same sense of pride and patriotism (I hope) in my kids.

It's painfully obvious what the far-left, overgrown hippies of Boulder have instilled in their children. A damn shame.

What a pathetic bunch of self centre little pups they are in Boulder. I wouldn't give them the time of day except to give them a swift kick in the BUTT to remind them that the UNITED STATES of AMERICA under their Constitution and Freedom of Expression to avow their opinions. However that does not give them the right to insult the Flag and the Oath of Alligence and to disgrace the Memory of those who have served that Flag in Peace Time and War for all the people of the United States of America. What I am trying to say is those young idiots need just a swift kick in the pants

Boulder is a freak show - I purposely avoid doing business there because of their politics and freakazoid population; I dream of bombing the place with a B-36 carrying a full load of human excrement.

Rocky Flats, the old nuclear bomb factory is about 20 miles to the south of the place - I bet some radioactivity drifted north affected the gene pool....

This is what happens when democracy goes wrong...those people should have lived in eastern Europe during the "Golden Age" and perhaps then will understand what freedom really means...

Since when does one nation, under God mean anything religious? Three things that kept this country free; God, guns and guts. It appears these students don't have any of them. Let them try that in Saudi Arabia...

freaks.

We said the pledge every morning when I was in school, and I am happy to say that my son's school does as well. I was one proud dad when Jacob recited it with me at the Camarillo airshow this year and knew every word.

Geuss you didn't read about the CU editor for the college newspaper print in bold headlines "F*** BUSH" as a method of showing the right to freedom of speech. I wonder if I walked up there and carried a poster that said "F*** Hillary" or "F*** Obama" and proclaimed it free speech if that would be ok. Boulder is a clusterf*** place of losers...

These youngsters don't know crap about religious oppression. Or much else.

A shame. I lived in Boulder as a young boy 1956 to 1960. There was
still a horse corral downtown and one main street. My Dad sold Piper
aircraft at the little airport. I don't reckon they would appreciate my type back there now. They sure wouldn't be able to relate to my son or daughter.

You wouldn't recognize it now...

While it has a very trendy and youthful side to it, you also the leftist element drawn there by the college. Some of these knuckleheads think by taking a few human development and Indian History classes taught by Ward Churchill while visiting Peruvian Indian Reservation in the summer makes them "worldly enlightened" to the point that they are so politically left, Castro would have a hard time being in the same room as them. Its one thing to have freethought - its another thing to purposely rebel against a perceived system that enables you to have freedom of speech and expression - but the minute someone rebuts their beliefs they are labeled as "fascists" or "neocons." But don't worry, today's Emo Liberal pussies are tomorrow's liberal voting tax-paying yuppies.....

What a bunch cr#p from this leftist idiots, In my school, nobody complains about the pledge. Although, for the last few years, it's been called a moment of silence, not the pledge of allegiance, I wonder why is that.

I grew up going to Catholic school and we recited the pledge every morning. TO - it blows my mind how people think that there is something in the Constitution regarding this "separation of Church and state." It's turned into a mythology of its own.
