Country: | Conservatives/Reactionaries By 'radical,' I understand one who goes too far; by 'conservative,' one who does not go far enough; by 'reactionary,' one who won't go at all.
Woodrow Wilson I never meant to say that the conservatives are generally stupid. I meant to say that stupid people are generally Conservative. I believe that is so obviously and universally admitted a principle that I hardly think any gentleman will deny it.
John Stuart Mill No advance, no progress can be made beyond these propositions. If anyone wishes to deny their truth or their soundness, the only direction in which he can proceed historically is not forward, but backward toward a time when there was no equality, no rights of the individual, no rule of the people. Those who wish to proceed in that direction cannot lay claim to progress. They are reactionary. Their ideas are not more "modern," but more ancient than those of our Revolutionary ancestors.
Calvin Coolidge, Foundations of the Republic; Speeches and Addresses (1926), p. 451. Conservative ideology...may be defined as a philosophy of imperfection, committed to...the defence of a limited style of politics.
Noël O'Sullivan, Conservatism (New York: St. Martin's Press, 1976), pp. 11-12.

Country: | Need to find a better quote that Wilson. Not the greatest president we had. Ok, but a fairly unbending liberal president who was part of the crew that drew up the Versailles Treaty.
Also the president in office when income taxes were started in the US. |

Country: | Even though I share some of his views: Mill was a male feminist, so what did you expect?
Why do people invent these shoeboxes for political views anyway. Some of my personal ideas are conservative, some aren't.

Country: | Liberals accuse Conservatives of being ignorant and stupid, and at the same time Conservatives accuse Liberals of the same. This mindset always makes me laugh. There are valids point to both sides of isle, I tend to lean towards the conservative side of issues, but see some merit to certain liberal views as well.
I do feel that people on both sides of the isle (I can only speak from my experience with the US population) tend to just listen to the rhetoric and do not do enough investigation into thier officials running for office. First thing they need to do is turn off the TV news as it is usually biased one way or another and does not even come close to telling the whole story in general.
I do not think that the mojority of the country truly understands what it means to be a Conservative or a Liberal these days, they just decide what they are based on what thier parents and peers are with little knowledge of what they stand for.

I agree. I am neither conservative or liberal. I am sort of nationalistic.

Country: | The words "Conservative" and "Reactionary" are usually used together, when actually some of the more Reactionary amongst us are Liberals! |

Also the president in office when income taxes were started in the US. | He was also an avowed racist who segregated the Federal Government. Then again, that makes him the quintessential Democrat. |
