Country: | No, I never went to Rio.
But if you look at the PDF file I've attached to my first post, you'll see that Brazil is in 62nd place out of 158. (1 being the less corrupted and 158 being the most corrupted.) |

Country: | Well maybe Brazil itself is not as corrupt, but if you can check
Rio de genir the city, I know I probably spelled it wrong. but Rio definately has the highest crime rating in the world.

| I wonder if those who said that due to such tough laws the people of Singapore are "rather sterile and devoid of character" ever really visited the city.
Very happy, educated, well mannered, welcoming, respectful people. I had a great time there. Also they are VERY WEALTHY.
The place is so safe, and so tough towards those breaking the rules of the game, investments flow and flow. The port is one of the greatest of the entire planet.
They are wealthier than most western and north european nations, and you will not see the hard boring faces of the ever increasingly depressed masses of Germans, Swedish or Norweigans.
Hussars, well it depends when it comes to crime ratings. The USA owns the World Gold Medal when referring to violent murder.

Country: | I have to take exception to your comment on US police officers enjoying being brutal. There have been cases of that, yes, but I would say that is not the majority. I have dealt with a number of police officers over the years and I found that if you treat them with respect and courtesy, you will get the same in return. Singapore cops are 100% respected and trusted? I will take your word for it, but if the same were true with cops in the US, it would obviously be a different situation.

Udet what you see on TV is not the truth. Only a very very small portion of the police are like that. I personally have never met a police officer who was rude or violent. They have only been extremely helpfull to me. As a matter of fact no one I know has ever had a problem with the police. In fact a lot of the violence you see from the police on TV is just the tip of the iceburg. What the press does not show you is the gun that the kid pulled on the police or the knife or the fact that he threw the first punches at the cops. In fact in most of those cases I stand by the cops and support them because I would have done the same thing.
Basically what I am saying you assessment of the cops is all wrong. Dont believe everything that you see on TV. Be better than that.

Country: | You need to sit on the border for a while before you pass judgement on the border patrol. Those poor bastards get endless grief from ******* tourists, drug runners and ne'er-do-wells.

Country: | Its easy for people to talk about the cops when they just sit in there homes and see the surface of what happens on TV. They dont really see what happens.

| In Indonesia, I always got a laugh reading the newspapers about criminals being shot dead by the police. It was always the same thing, suspect assaults the officer, always by lunging at him with a knife, and the cops partner had to shoot the criminal in self defense.
It was like the same paragraph was used week after week, year after year.

The B.C. incident is the first incident in a long time.
However Canadians are well know for Smuggling Canadian Beer, Smokes and Rye just to sell to Americans.
