Could the US be headed for a tie in the Novermber election?

For all of the talk about the Democrats having a lock on the 2008 Presidential election, the reality is that things are not likely to change much. There are only a handful of states that are really up for grabs, as most of the nation is either solid red or blue. The states that are going to be battlegrounds are Ohio, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico & Iowa. There is a possibility that Florida, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Missouri, & Arkansas will be in play as well.

Perhaps one of the most likely probabilities is that Obama/Clinton will win all of the states that Gore did, + New Hampshire, and Nevada. Ohio stays Republican by a squeaker.

The result would be an electoral tie 269 - 269.

Something to look forward to isn't it?

Don't think it will even be close. Iowa will be in the Blue states as will Colorado and Florida.

Depending on the Economy, and that's looking worse every day, the party in power will be out of power. Going to be an interesting 4 years ahead of us.

It's looking like Obama will be the Dem nominee, and depends how much the "Bradley effect" has to do with it, as black candidates usually do poorer than expected. (probably because many people don't want to admit to pollsters that they won't be voting for the black candidate)

It will be interesting to see how Colorado & Florida do vote, as they have much higher hispanic minorities than black

But just in case it does end up a tie, everyone will be secure in the knowlege that the next President will be chosen by Nancy Pelosi, Dennis Kusinich & Charlie Wrangel

The more people know about Obama and his platform, the more they will vote against him.

Hes red meat on the table.

We are looking for a repeat of 1972, 1984 and 1988.

Good luck with that...

The modern reality is that the red states stay red, the blue states stay blue, it's only the 7 or 8 states mentioned that have much chance of changing sides.

You & Tim & Buck havn't much chance of seeing your states vote Republican.

I believe the swing will be independents and many of them tend to be more to the right. I have to say that if Obama gets the nomination there will be many who will vote AGANIST him based on race. If Hillary is nominated people will vote AGAINST her because she is generally not liked by many outside her party. Unless McCain does something incredibly stupid between now and November or if some real dirt is uncovered against him I'm afraid he may get the ticket.

Many will vote in this election not for the candidate of their choice but rather AGANIST the candidate they don't want to have. An election of the lesser of two evils...

And Jersey is solid blue too.

I don't think it will be even though whoever does win will be by a slim margin IMHO.

I feel your pain... Jersey's state of affairs I fear will only get worse as it's deficit continues to grow and the more affluent individuals and businesses continue to pull out of the state... including myself. I own two homes, I'm a landlord, I have some assets - so I must be rich and be penalized for my success... yeah right...

Ain't it the truth. Some knucklehead's out there think that wealth is a zero sum game. If you are ahead, they must be behind. So you must be penalized for your success.

Jeez...
