| Well it's a complicated issue. I think that if they brought qualifications and expertise to the table, politicians would be worth whatever they got paid; sky's the limit.
Here in Canada, after the previous Fed election ( not the one just passed), the MP's in the House unanimously voted themselves a pay raise in the area of 23%.
The MP in my area was re-elected during the last election primarily because the voters didn't see a viable alternative on the ballot- a bunch of real dubs- and this is something like his fourth term as an MP. He's a Tory, and obviously feeling he had to be thrown a bone for long term service, Harper made him a Cabinet Minister for Veteran's Affairs. His pay grade is now something like $230 000.00.
The man never served a day in uniform, as far as I know. Neither has he made any outstanding contributions to the well-being of the riding he supposedly represents.
I can see paying them what they're worth, not what they think they're worth. |
