Country: | I am sure that most colonials though would have pretty much prefered to have never been ruled by anyone other than themselves.

Country: | Those colonials would be absolutely nowhere today without the British Empire. Whenever an Indian travels on a train through his country, he does it because Britain put it there.
If British Colonials hated the British and it's Empire so much, why did the waving of a Union Jack bring millions upon millions to Britain's aid?
It's easy to sit here, in the 21st Century, with modern though and condemn Britain for her Empire. But have you ever taken into consideration that in the Imperial Age any country with power was after conquests? If Britain hadn't taken India, who's to say France wouldn't have?
The fact of the matter is; people on the ground level don't really care who rules as long as they have a decent life. Britain tried several ways to give that to them and, as mentioned before, it didn't work. I've spoken with Indians about the British Empire and most of those either didn't care or didn't think any less of Britain for it.
And once again, without the British Empire most of those nations that were under it's influence wouldn't have anything now.

Country: | No body is argueing that fact, but no one likes to be ruled by another nation, whether they are trying to help or not.

| No country wishes to be fixed and second no country ever invaded another for benevolent intentions. It didn't matter who the invader was, American (Mexican Arizona, New Mexico, California), Britain, Spain, Portugal, France etc. there was a purpose land, resources, food, something. Power is also a prime motivator, to be the Biggest, Baddest, Richest are things we see every day.
Wheather a country is better off because of colonization is both debateable and irrevelent because if it is/was enriched, it's a side effect. The Sudan sure isn't better off because of its colonization.
Benevolence, or lack of, is based on both the political view of and the cheapest way to stabilize/control that colony and to assure the maximum amount of produce is recieved from that colony.
It was a time in history where low populations in most of the world and concentrations in Eroupe made it practile. Today with heightened sensabilities and a high global population has developed to a point that Intentions have begun to allow nations to act in a benvolent way and stop the further expansion of countries.
