del your talking irrational nonsense now and not getting anywhere except in your mind, go back to the origins of the thread you started instead of trying to defend yourself ............. this is all getting pointless for arguments sake, and tedious

I suppose Erich is right. This argument is getting us nowhere. We disagree and that's not going to change.

D - please respond to the question I posed. I'm seriously asking you that question - what do you propose as a solution to that scenario?

From earlier post:
"Please allow me to restate the dilemma again. One state formally bans gay marriage by law. A second state legalizes gay marriage. Now you have reciprocity of marriage licenses. Does the one state where gay marriage is illegal recognize the marriage from the other state? What happens. I am not arguing going against the US Constitution; as it reigns supreme - you won't find that language of mine in any post. I said the federal gov't needs to step in - which was the reasoning behind the marriage amendment - which would not be going against the Constitution because it would become part of it. What would be your solution to that matter?"

Well, currently if a gay couple is married in Massachusetts, their marriage is not legal in any other state. I don't see the problem with this arrangement. It still sucks for the gays, but until their state legalizes gay marriage, than I guess that they are out of luck. Or they could move to Massachusetts. Of course I don't think that this is exactly fair. I would obviously prefer for all states to legalize gay marriage. I don't think that a Constitutional amendment is necessary. In fact, I think that idea is complete b.s.

Leave it up to the states. In Colorado we just defeated same sex legislation, in fact it was voted down almost 2 to 1 despite a large gay population in Denver.

I agree with leaving it up to the states, as I have stated.

Ok - so leave it up to the states. Apparently I'm the only one who sees a problem with this.

What if you hold property in another state, get sick and are hospitalized in another state, do ANYTHING in another state other than the state that has legalized your gay marriage. You would not be considered married, and denied any of the benefits of your "marriage." That doesn't seem an appropriate in my opinion. What if this affects other forms of reciprocity between the states?

Extremely unlikely. The human animal is tribal in nature. Provinces within most countries dislike each other (Germans mock other Germans, same with Brits etc). South American countries hate each other. The degree of hatred and resentment within different parts of the EU even today is quite high. I doubt that it will stay as a monolitihic bloc even for 25 years, certainly not for generations.

Therefore, a world government is highly unlikely. People want to defend their own corner.

Would love to see a RATIONAL defense of this absurd statement. Const' amendments have regularly changed the moral climate in the US.
