I used to think we had too few political parties also... until I remembered that we Americans have a surplus of personal weaponry.

Then I was glad.

in us theres just 2 parties, in brazil theres 23.... with chances to win something

theres the right, the half right, the center right, the midfielder right, the center, the center right, the center left, the center let/right, the comunists, the comunists/capitalists, the left liberals, the left-right and also the evangelical group. wich is a very important group since the sheeps votes in the candidate pointed by their priest.

but its a russian roulette anyway, just more funny options here.

As stated there are more than 2 political parties in the US...

Parties in presidential contention
Further information: Political parties in the United States
Each of five parties shares a degree of national attention by attaining the mathematical possibility of its nominee becoming President of the United States -- i.e., having ballot status for its presidential candidate in states whose collective total is at least half of the Electoral-College votes -- in the U.S. presidential election, 2008.

Democratic Party (1828 modern, 1792 historic)
Republican Party (1854)
Libertarian Party (1971)
Constitution Party (1992)
Green Party (1996)

[edit] Other parties that have nominated candidates in recent elections
These parties have offered candidates in recent elections, but did not in 2004, and they do not have ballot status in enough states in 2008 to win the presidency. Some do not have presidential candidates, but for other offices only.

This is an incomplete list, which may never be able to satisfy certain standards for completeness. You can help by expanding it.

True - here's an access to most of those:

Link:
Politics1 - Guide to American Political Parties

But, the way our system actually functions only two parties have any say in what happens in our country.

The ONLY influence any other party has is in that anyone who votes for one of their candidates (assuming the candidate CAN get on a ballot to start with), reduces the number of votes cast in the election that actually decides who is in control of policy and money.

That is exactly how Bill Clinton got in office. He was elected by Ross Perot voters.

Richard Nixon was elected by George Wallace voters.

Ronald Reagan was elected by John Anderson voters.

George W. Bush was elected by Ralph Nader and Pat Buchanan voters.

In 2008, it could happen that Obama gets elected by Ron Paul and Bob Barr voters.

Oh I see so you are easily offended Pb because you believe I ramble on. So be it PB. There is an easy alternative before you take up the crudgels again (And I am pretty sure I made no offensive remarks to Charles at any stage.) That is to mind your own business when it comes to me. Make no comment whatsoever and desist from being the moral crusader or defender of others on this WebSite. If Charles believes I offended him. It is up to Charles to inform me of such and certainly not you Pb. And as such the matter would then between Charles and myself to sort out and not have some moralisitc person as yourself to make further comments
