Country: | Did not proof read. Meant sounds like a positive development to me. Wonder if that election has any ramifications for the coming presidential election in the US. Understand that Bush has a good relationship with France's president elect. |

Country: | I just heard that too. I'm excited. Maybe with some policy shifts the French won't be afraid to get their hands dirty and work a little bit. Although Sarkozy opposes the war in Iraq - he does look fondly upon the US. A warm notion from a nation that has actively opposed the US in many aspects since WWII.

Country: | Sarkozy wins French presidency!
Conservative Nicolas Sarkozy greeted news of his election Sunday to a five-year term as France's president with a vow to serve as a leader for all people of France.
"The president of the republic must love and respect all the French," he told cheering supporters at his campaign headquarters. "I will be the president of all the French people.
Sarkozy won with 53 percent of the vote, according to polls for France's state-run network, France 2. Sarkozy wins French presidency - CNN.com

Country: | I also hear that he is going to take a harder stance against the riots and their perpetrators. He called them scum. Didn't realize the french had a word for scum. It is probably translated from "the foamy stuff that rises to the top when you boil meat".

Country: | From what I've heard and read this is the first government of France without Gaullists since the 1940's that might make a difference

| I really ope that I am wrong but I have read about the measures that he is planning to take and they don't match the retoric.
It remains to be seen if he can walk the walk, not just talk the talk. |

Country: | He has an uphill battle. Look at Bush. He is vilified by the left. Sarkozy is the first conservative in how many years? Wish him luck.
