Country: | There have been periods of warming and cooling going on for as long as history has been recorded and before that also. I absolutely stand by my statement about Gore and the democrat party. To a great extent, the environmentalist movement today has been hi jacked by the socialistic anti capitalist elitist left. Unless you have dealt with them, you can't imagine how dogmatic they are. What they really want is no growth. What they don't realise is that no growth means a falling standard of living. Of course that doesn't matter to many of them because they already are financially independent. |

I remember the little ice age. Shoveled through it! Back then, it was Time Magazine calling on the end of the world. The theory was called the "Ice Blitz" which was where it snowed heavily during the winter and then did not melt as spring came, then a bit of it went away during summer but the next winter came early and it snowed more and heavier....in 25 years you had all of North America covered in a glacier. They were still teaching me that crap in college back in 1982.
But there were other things that were going to kill us off:
-Saccharin
-Salt (High Blood pressure)
-Acid Rain (a shout out to FlyBoy J on that one)
-The Soviet Union
-Guns
-Carcinigens in the water
-Mercury Poisoning
-Earth Quakes (bad news in California, it was going to fall into the sea)
-Black Panthers
-DDT
-Sharks (remember Jaws?)
-The US military was going to collapse
-Nuclear Power (thanks to TMI)
-Divorce
-Recession and the Rise of Japan
and on and on an on... |

Country: | Thats all I'm saying is that serious consideration should be given to both sides of the arguement I googled a couple of the speakers in the latter film and one guy who claims to be a prof has'nt been since 96 and another was was funded by Exxon . And on the other side the people who signed the accord in Belgium last week a high proportion had no more knowledge of the subject then you or I.

Country: | Two observations about global warming(no question that temperatures are edging upward) If this was two hundred or more years ago and we knew that temperatures were going up globally, we would be going around celebrating because we knew we would have an easier time staying warm in the winter and we would also know that our growing season would get longer and we would have an easier time feeding ourselves. Secondly if you look at the people who are pushing the idea that man is the cause of global warming, the idea loses much credibility. |

Country: | And what suprises me is that virtually none of these discussions find fault with the premise of the video. Current global warming enthusiasts have postulated that CO2 is the primary cause of rising earth temperatures. This video and other scientists have claimed that this portion of the global warming model cannot be defended in scientific terms. Rather, we end up having related, but irrelavant discussions about the fact the the earth temps are rising, but we don't evaluate the relavancy of the primary corallary that CO2 is the cause. This to me was the premise of the video. And this thread reinforces the emotional debate, but misses the scientific debate.

Country: | Matt, I find the video you so kindly provided us wholly credible and have circulated it to some other people who are well educated and highly successful and they found it credible also. I don't claim to be a genius but do have a BS degree in geology from a good institution and have spent a large number of years in residence on this earth and the video and it's premises would seem to appeal to those with common sense and don't have an axe to grind.(like Gore) |

Pollution particles collect in the upper atmospere, mostly from jet exhaust, and these particles gather and act as a shield that BOUNCES the suns rays away from the earth ...IN DIRECT PORTION TO THE EFFECT OF GLOBAL WARMING!
They wanted to test this but they needed a time and place where no planes were flying, which at the time was almost impossible....until.....
September 11, 2001 provided them with three whole days of clear skies and the data they collected proved them correct. There was a significant rise in temperatures compared in areas where they already had temp data. Somebody forgot the first rule of science ... to every action there is an opposite and equal re-action.
! | i saw the same documentary on PBS and and thats one source another source is everything we do emits heat and our ineffient use of our resources is compounding the problem and yes even methane from cows . The hole we punched through the ozone layer at the poles is another piece of the puzzle and if you think ethanol will stop it your incorrect .

Country: | Remember bird flu? That evil death virus that would kill us all? I do, it was all over our media.
Remember when it was announced that glaxosmithkline had developed a vaccine that could be mass produced to prevent H5N1?
Nope. Not controversial enough for most news channels. Maybe it was the 4th or 5th item read out. BBC Coverage
The media loves controversy. And this 'Global Warming' phenomenon has just thrived. No-one really needs a catalytic converter. Let's all go and burn some Oil! Yay!

Matt308 - And what suprises me is that virtually none of these discussions find fault with the premise of the video.
| I have not seen the video and never will. My point , which I think you alluded to is, this is just another case of politictians yelling "the sky is falling!"
Yes Earth temps are rising (or falling). Yes, things are changing. The only thing that is permanant is change. But these changes are caused by numerous, numerous factors. To focus on one thing and blame mankind for the WHOLE cause is ridculious. "If I don't stop farting, I'm gonna destroy the atmosphere and its gonna be my fault that I killed the Earth. Ohhhh!"
I am tired of politicians scaring the public into demanding laws to be passed to stop faux conflict that takes more money out of my pocket. I will do want I can to reduce my human garbage but I will support making rich people richer.
I can't afford solar panels. I can't afford windmills in my back yard. I can't afford electric cars or Fords that run on twinkies. Even scientists admitted last week there is nothing we can do to reverse Global Warming in whatever degree it exists.
Another thing. Has anyone ever heard of entropy?
Sorry if I posted long but this Global Warming heats ME up!

Country: | Im not educated enough in the subject to have a "I know what the problem is" attitude, but, what gets me is that the Earth has never had the human impact forced upon it in its history...
The things that our race has blown into the sky over the last 300 years, and especially in the last century, HAS to be affecting something.... The thing is, no one knows...
As far as the gov't intrusion into it, someone has to do something, and if we dont want the gov't doin, someone needs to stand up and take charge of it...
I dont know about the whole "Gobal Warming" thing, but something is happening that has never happened before... something.... Maybe someday, someone will finally figure it out...

Country: | I agree that something is happening but its something that has always been happening. For thousands of years.
And I hate to argue with you but why does anybody have to do anything? If this change has been happening for centuries and is a part of the natural progression of time, why do we have to do anything? Yes we do play a part in this but what we do I don't think will change or affect the outcome.
Scientists say the Sun is losing its steam every year, burning out. The moon and the Earth are losing gravitational grip upon each other each year. What can we do about these things? They affect the weather more than a hole in the sky, I think. These are just some things that man is powerless against and Global warming to me is one. Why waste dollars on it?
I could go on and I'm sorry if this is ranting but stuff like this burns me up. I live near two major cities whose crime rates exploded and murders have increased and they want to bitch about Global Warming. Take the money you made off that film and improve the school systems, lower property taxes, etc. so many other worth while things than something that you can't change anyhow.

NJ's road infrastructure is getting beat up badly too - and they can't come up with the adequate funds for that either.
I'm with les that I don't know nearly enough on the matter to make any sort of educated opinion. I would also tend to think that human emissions cannot contribute in a positive way to the global environment. How much of an actual impact it is having, well that's what all the debate is about.
