It's not like Gore discovered the problem he just made himself the messengerfor which i give him points . But he is a devisive character in America particularly with those of the right persausion and IMHO does more harm then good in the US.

Country: | Gore is somewhat a "mental" character. But I have to give his handlers some due.

Matt, I agree. Man is a percentage of the problem. But is anything we do gonna change GW? Not that I can see. And even if, say America, Canada and the UK among others do change, you still have China, Russia and all the other 3rd world and 2nd world countries belching and contributing.
Heres another thought. If this issue is so important, so demanding of action now, why are all the presidential candidates using chartered, personal jets and limos?
Do ya think "Rambo MMIIV" will be devoid of gases from all the studio explosions that spiral up to the ozone?
Hate when someone preaches to me and doesn't have the courtesy to give a reach-around.

NJ - they don't have to practice what they preach... they're politicians. His time and his schedule makes him more important than you, so he is justified in utilizing private jets and such while he tells you to drive a 700lb electric car that goes 20mph and gets totalled when it hits a chipmunk.
They can all suck it - I'm not putting my kids in those tiny sh*tbox cars.

Country: | But I thought MAN was the problem? Let me get this straight. If Man wasn't around, the cows would mulitply and GW would still happen. Hmmmm.

Country: | No, if man wasn't around the cows would die. Unless of course cows start learning to milk themselves...
PBFoot, good point on Gore. What the US is concerned, he is indeed the worst person available to convince people of GW.
The IPCC report is quite clear that man is the primary cause for Global Warming. This report represents the vast majority of scientists, so I believe that report. To say that IPCC is just leftist and biased and whatever, is just an excuse not to believe it.
And about presidents and others flying around in their own jets ... well, that's a point which has been made ever since there were politicians. They raise taxes, don't do anything for the poor but they themselves are wealthy as hell. Always the same thing.

Country: | Civ, I respect you basing it on the reports you've read and I have to admit I'm not that good at remembering every part of this equation but... I also read a report, put out by some respected scientists that stated that man contributed to GW, but was not the primary cause. Please forgive me for not remebering, my fault.
But I'm not hassling that man is part of the situation. I can't stand the Chicken Little syndrome that prevades across this subject. And I'm not going to listen to these same "edjmakated" people who told me in the 70s that the planet would become a huge ice ball.
Man contributes, agreed. But my little hole with its 1 watt lighting, 15 mph Edison car and trash bags made of emu dung will not make a difference against what China, N. Korea, South Africa or a whole host of other countries who couldn't give a damn, do with their industries. There will still be Bophal and Chernobyls out there.
Its false, its fake and its a load of cr*p. Lets get our house in order first before taking money from me and making me eat seaweed sprouts. Solve the murder rates in our cities. Improve the education in our schools. Wipe out the corruption in our governments. Prop up the job market and houseing so there will be more people to have money to spend wisely.
Where is the tangible benifit that we enjoy that Al Gore gave us? Zero. A lot of hot air. OOps! Thats gonna widen the ozone hole some more!

Country: | Nature, not man, is to blame, Gore critic insists
By Steve Lyttle
McClatchy Newspapers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One of the world's foremost meteorologists Friday called the theory that helped Al Gore win a share of the Nobel Prize "ridiculous" and the product of "people who don't understand how the atmosphere works."
William Gray, a pioneer in the science of seasonal hurricane forecasts, spoke to a packed lecture hall at UNC Charlotte and said humans are not responsible for the warming of the Earth.
His visit, arranged through the meteorology program at the university, came on the same day that Gore was honored for his work in support of the link between humans and global warming.
"We're brainwashing our children," said Gray, 78, a professor at Colorado State University. "They're going to the Gore movie ('An Inconvenient Truth') and being fed all this. It's ridiculous."
Gray, whose annual forecasts of the number of tropical storms and hurricanes are widely publicized, said instead that a natural cycle of ocean water temperatures — related to the amount of salt in ocean water — is responsible for the global warming that he acknowledges has taken place.
However, he said, that same cycle means a period of global cooling will begin soon and last for several years.
"We'll look back on all of this in 10 or 15 years and realize how foolish it was," Gray said.
He cited statistics, showing there were 101 hurricanes from 1900-1949, in a period of cooler global temperatures, compared to 83 from 1957-2006, when the Earth warmed.
"The human impact on the atmosphere is simply too small to have a major effect on global temperatures," Gray said.
"It bothers me that my fellow scientists are not speaking out against something they know is wrong," he said. "But they also know that they'd never get any grants if they spoke out. I don't care about grants."

Country: | Like I said before. It's easy to find articles or speeches by scientists who don't believe in anthropogenic GW. I don't see what the point is though.
I can also expect people not really see the need to combat GW because it's not something they notice every day: it doesn't seem to be a real problem. Crime rates, corruption and education may seem bigger problems. But I wonder if people in Africa or Polynesia will agree with that.
As to what we can do about it, that's another thing. I myself don't think we should go to extremes in our personal lifes but we should at least do something. And China and India may not join, they will probably follow suit on the following climate conferences. In any case, we cannot use it as an excuse to do nothing. If you see someone drowning and you see your neighbour nor helping, will you also decide not do help the drowning person?

Country: | Your analogy is effed up Civettone. Your neighbor is not drowning. He just has bad form. Would you give your neighbor a Tracheotomy because his backstroke is bad?
Tall fences make good neighbors.
