One of the larger sources for methane is being caused by the thawing permafrost which is made up of peat moss and as it thaws it releases methane

As for Mr Gray
"
On April 26, 2006, RealClimate.org, which describes itself as "a commentary site on climate science by working climate scientists for the interested public and journalists," responded to a paper written by Gray by detailing "the fundamental misconceptions on the physics of climate that underlie most of Gray's pronouncements on climate change and its causes" and "the gaping flaws" in his "scientific argument." A June 11, 2006, article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Judith A. Curry, chair of Georgia Tech's School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, said that "Gray's message that global warming is a hoax is being heard because of his media connections, but she [Curry] points out he has not published any research to back it up." The article quoted Curry saying: "His ideas on global warming are not taken seriously in scientific circles."
you also may quote me if need be that I agree with Gray
The science is there but most of us do not have the ability nor the resources to make more then a mimimal change it takes leadership and morally bankrupt politicians are not the answer.

Don't forget during this discussion that GW whether caused by man or not is not necessarily all bad.

Not all bad? True. But definitely bad in many places. And definitely bad for any ecological system.
The worst part is that it will especially hurt those people who are already in a horrible state, the poor people in the third world who are life dependent on natural primary resources.

well I will join in again and I think this thing is bunk and pure cyclization.

many of you are too young to remember the 50's let alone the bizarre weather in the 1930's of which I have very specific reports on the weather due to my job or at least one of them...........snow and heavy rain one year and then a complete opposite the next enough to throw the present weather forecasters into a shamble. Right now we hae at 4,000 ft in the south Oregon much snow piling up, guess a hot trip on the roads of Crater lake is done for the year.

let's face it it is all out of our control though we think we can somehow change the worlds weather. A very large domineering PRESENCE all around and above us has a better idea. Gore has placed himself as one of the premier stooges in the world so let him think he is hot stuff, as his brillantcy he feels in discovering global warming as a threat was seen before he was even born of the earth

ok folks time to shower me with your vile wit

Every one is to blame , I don't believe we realized the consequences at the time .
Like lead pipes and paint
asbestos
agent orange
the troops watching the A tests
air pollution
love canal
any number of things hind sight is 20/20 and Bush and our PM is no help

these pics show what I grew up seeing the plant with the smoke was making abrasives and every day the cars would be coated in abrasive dust had to wash them with muriatic acid to clean them
also they used the river as a sewer dumped everything in it
And they whined then to about how cleaning up would result in ruining the economy

bottom line pb............... the world has grown to much with an over-population.

Conservation though a lead topic in most campaigns is always overlooked, the youth of the world don't give a rats behind and neither do the older folk on average. let's just say if we add all the consequences up we may never know when a shifting of cycles ever occurred

Statistically it's a fact that we're not just in another cycle. People should stop building up arguments with things they saw or experienced in their personal past. History is also full of these accounts.
There's GW and it's not part of a natural cycle. Period.

Btw, let me share what I just read. The polar ice cap has never been this small (in recorded history).

Already in early August 2007, about a month before the absolute minimum was expected, new historic Arctic sea ice minima were observed. Around September 16, 2007, a minimum area of 2.92 million km˛ and minimum extent of 4.14 million km˛ were reached. These numbers shattered the previous (September 20 2005) record absolute minima; the 2007 minimum extent was 22% or 1.19 million km˛ smaller (approximately the size of Texas and California, or five United Kingdoms, combined) and 41% below the 1978-2000 average summer minimum. The area was even 27% below the previous record and 46% below the average, reflecting the poorer quality of the remaining ice packs. The northernmost ice edge ever was recorded in September at 85.5 degrees North (near 160 degrees East), i.e. just 4.5 degrees from the north pole.

Based on the extreme drop in 2007, scientists at the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) reduced their estimates on when the first ice free arctic ocean would appear, predicting this to happen as early as 2030. The Arctic Sea has not been ice free for a period of at least one million years, and probably much longer.

The NSIDC also reported that, for the first time in recorded history, the Northwest Passage opened to ships without the need of icebreakers

Another excuse for military conflict.. many of the sea lanes are disputed. Mother Russia wants it all.

Well. Sounds like the thread can be closed.

If the sky is falling, why does everybody wait around on the US to act. To use your analogy, if my neighbor kid was drowning in the pool, why would I wait for my neighbor to get home from work to pull him from the pool. Revamp your economy Civvetone and burden your industry and public. It's all for the greater good, right? We're right behind you...
