Whether or not she is or was a bona fide, real life credentialed expert didn't matter. What she spewed was given that weight by those who wanted to hear her and believed she knew what she was talking about. Lord knows why.
A possibly better example would be Meryl Streep (if memory serves) who actually testified before a congressional subcommittee as an expert on farm life. She became an expert by becoming so knowledgeable on the subject by playing the role of a woman who lived on a farm in a movie. Quote:

So if what we do or in this case don't do individually doesn't affect the problem in a positive way then I really have to question how what we do individually has or had any effect in a negative way.

Country: | Isn't that what most liberals do? They speak one thing and do another as long as there pockets are getting deeper. Then again though you can say all politicians do that.

Country: | .. politicians are merely the elected officials of a democracy .we put them in office by concensus , then we bitch and complain because they are not omniscient ? ,in the old days we were ruled by kings who gained office when their daddys died .in latin amerca, a general takes over and becomes a defacto king for life or until another general kills him , our system is better ... .al gore is just a man ,i voted against him three different times as did most of you , if , however he is proven right by events ( which i fear ,he will be ) he will go down in history as one of the most important statesmen in recent history ...al gore and gw bush are imperfect ,as was carter ,clinton ,nixon ,ike ,jfk ,fdr ,reagan ,truman ,teddy r ,jackson lincoln ,jefferson ,adams , washington and even winston churchill screwed the pooch on occasion (galipolli) ....being a politician does not make one sleazywhoreslimebag , just a guy picked by all of us , to doing the best he can in a 14 hour work day of endless comprimises ,trade offs and shades of grey..at the desk where the damn buck stops , i wouldnt want the job ,would you? |

Country: | I'm sorry, but throughout history there have been statesman who were truly great and achieved so much for their nation. Frederick II of Prussia for example is recognised as one of the greatest leaders to have lived; and he was there "just because his daddy died,".
There are people that are up for the task with the intelligence and conviction to do what they truly think is the right thing for the nation. As stupid as it may sound, Hitler was one of the greatest politicians in history and not just for his rhetoric.
When Hitler made his promises to his nation, he tried with all his ability to keep them. Unfortunately for the German nation, Hitler's ability as a general and industrialist was less than he believed.
You cannot defend politicians by saying they were all imperfect - because even if you don't agree with a politicians they can still be decent humans, and good leaders... but, unfortunately, today most are not.

Country: | one big problem with american politics imo , is the amount of time they have to spend stumpin and grindin for money to get elected or even re elected ..i read that clinton and gore spent huge ammounts of time 4 or 5 hours a day for months at the end of their first term , just phoneing and pitching big money doners . im sure republicans have to do the same thing , im not sure how to remidy this tv ad money problem but its gotten to be the 800 lb gorrilla of modern elections , mabey a spending cap like in the nfl draft . do the british pols have this same all consuming money monster breathing down their necks ? |

Country: | One will have a hard time finding this is in the mainstream media but in the Oct. 25 edition of the WSJ there is a transcript of an interview with a CNN reporter and John Christy, a SCIENTIST, at the U of Alabama, Huntsville, who seems to have nothing but scorn for al gore and his movie, an incovenient truth. John Christy happens to be on the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and is the co-recipient of the Nobel Peace prize along with gore. He avers that he is one of the few scientists who actually put together "climate data sets" and he "does not see catastrophic changes" He also noted that CNN did not report that 2 weeks ago the Antarctic ice reached it's all time maximum size while the Arctic reached it's all time minimum size. Interesting! |
