Heard an interview today on the radio(KOA) with a professor emeritus from CSU who has 55 years as a meteorologist, Masters and PHD from U of Chicago and is the guy who gives the annual forecast about hurricanes. He said that man has only a minimal influence on climate change and that our small influence, if mitigated, will cost the industrial nations a lot more than any resulting change in the climate would be worth and might even be detrimental to all mankind.

A WEST Australian medical expert wants families to pay a $5000-plus "baby levy" at birth and an annual carbon tax of up to $800 a child.

Baby tax needed to save planet, claims expert | NEWS.com.au

Writing in today's Medical Journal of Australia, Associate Professor Barry Walters said every couple with more than two children should be taxed to pay for enough trees to offset the carbon emissions generated over each child's lifetime.

Professor Walters, clinical associate professor of obstetric medicine at the University of Western Australia and the King Edward Memorial Hospital in Perth, called for condoms and "greenhouse-friendly" services such as sterilisation procedures to earn carbon credits.

And he implied the Federal Government should ditch the $4133 baby bonus and consider population controls like those in China and India.

Professor Walters said the average annual carbon dioxide emission by an Australian individual was about 17 metric tons, including energy use.

"Every newborn baby in Australia represents a potent source of greenhouse gas emissions for an average of 80 years, not simply by breathing but by the profligate consumption of resources typical of our society," he wrote.

"Far from showering financial booty on new mothers and rewarding greenhouse-unfriendly behaviour, a 'baby levy' in the form of a carbon tax should apply, in line with the 'polluter pays' principle."

Australian Family Association spokeswoman Angela Conway said it was ridiculous to blame babies for global warming.

"I think self-important professors with silly ideas should have to pay carbon tax for all the hot air they create," she said. "There's masses of evidence to say that child-rich families have much lower resource consumption per head than other styles of households.

But the plan won praise from high-profile doctor Garry Egger. "One must wonder why population control is spoken of today only in whispers," he wrote in an MJA response article.

The current reasons and effects for GW:
1. Cow farts
2. Divorce
3. babies

But I thought the mantra for the liberals was "its about the children"?

Now, correct me if I'm wrong...

When I was in school, I was told that Australia has a population of (in average) 2 citizens by square kilometers. Making it the country the less pouplated on Earth. And they want to tax parents having children ? A f*cking good way to prevent them from having kids. When are they gonna stop their "carbon tax politic" ? When they hit 0.5 citizens by square kilometers ?

All those ecological zealots are going backward to civilization. I'm telling you folks, soon Greenpeace (or an other bunch of Eco-Zealots) will plant a bacterial bomb somewhere on Earth to exterminate all living humans. Anyone remember the plotline of the video game Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six (the first episode of the saga) ? It's coming, folks.

Yes, we are a sparsly populated country (pop. 21 million) but thats how we like it. Just because some looney Doctor suggested this idiotic tax doesn't mean the Australian Govt. is going to introduce it, it's mearly his oppinion. In fact at the moment its the opposite, the Govt actually pays us around $4000 to pop out a kid.

Maybe, they could have swam there. It's definitely an attempt to politicize and polarize the myth.

I've been hardcore bashing the global warming lies for years, and was sceptical for years prior to that.

Only dead planets orbiting dead stars dont have climate change, and what we've been having is PROVEABLY mild in known history. The mini ice age will not go away just because it does not fit the lies.

I find it interesting that hardly anyone in this thread agrees w/ Global Warming, but yet Al Gore and several of the Gov'r regulators are preaching it like it's Gospel. Rush also pointed out that Al Gore is afraid to debate the issue of GW w/ anyone, because he would definitely lose!

Harvard you think its funny that hardly anyone believes it?

Well I have an answer for you.

We are free thinking people that dont believe everything that is spurted out of someones mouth.

We also dont believe in all these conspiracy theories that you come here with about every 3 months.
