Country: | I was thinking this same thing when another member posted a thread about the catalytic converter a short time ago. It was engineered to emit carbon dioxide!! I was screaming at the PC that what was good 30 some years ago - made law by tree huggers is now bad. What irony if there is any.
I'm still baffled why nobody has said anything about how it all equalizes!! Last year I watched a program on PBS no less that explained how pollution (I can't remember all the specifics) collects in the upper atmosphere and acts a s a mirroe for alot of the sun's rays thereby equalizing the warming effects. To put this in theory they needed a clean sky with which to test the theory. But with so many aircraft circling the globe, how to do that? Well, 9/11 provided them with no air taffic and those few days without aircraft proved their point. Apparently worldwide temps went up slightly during that period.
I have heard nothing about this since that show??

Country: | An example of the media and their exalted opinion of themselves is that this morning all the networks were extolling the virtues of and deifying Tim Russert. He was a died in the wool democrat(as most of them are) not objective at all. If one recalls, it was his testimony, in part, which put Scooter Libby in jail. Aside from all that, he was nothing but a television talking head and the media is spending hours eulogising him. In other words, it's all about them! As far as I am concerned they are all a bunch of self important, provincial, lily livered snobs, none of whom have ever peed hard against the ground. |

Country: | The media has become the story. At that point, there really is no difference between the ABC Evening News and Access Hollywood. Maybe by degrees.
Once you figure that out (I came around to it in the late 80s), you find something else to do with your time. News has become opinion, simple as that. And I have heard enough of other people's opinions. |

Country: | Tim, outstanding and well put. I could not agree more. The media never "does" anything. The just talk about what other people do and as you say the "news" is mostly their opinion. |

Country: | And that is the point, Pb, so why go running around like a chicken without a head and make laws that serve no purpose.
Its an imprecise science thats going to eventually have a precise cost I'm not willing to pay for.

Country: | Everyone is entitled to an opinion pb but to make laws based on someone's opinion is pretty dangerous. An example might be the anti-Jewish laws during the Third Reich. |

Come to think of it, I don't remember ever meeting a person that didn't have one....an opinion that is.
Then again, the Mexican Beaded Lizard and the Gila Monster don't have one, (the other thing, not an opinion)!!! |

| What's scary is that people refer to global climate change as an opinion. Global climate change is not up for debate - its very real and measurable.
Very simply put there are 2 options of what is happening and 4 different outcomes (I've gone with the doomsayers opinions on all the outcomes):
1. Global climate change is caused by nature and we take action
Outcome: global economic depression.
2. Global climate change is caused by nature and we dont take action
Outcome: Everybody is happy - except for the people taking dammage from all the other effects of pollution
3. Global climate change is caused by man and we take action
Outcome: Global economic depression with a habbitable planet
4. Global climate change is caused by man and we dont take action
Outcome: Earth is destroyed and mankind largely exterminated
So take your pick.... Personally I go with taking action - Nr. 2 would be nice but it opens the possibility of Nr. 4... And that pretty much settles it for me.
As for the global climate change being a "religion"... Can you blame people for treating it as a religion when it threatens them with destroying the world as we know it...? |
