Yes, Adler. I am not pushing my religion on anyone any more than certain people on this post are pushing theirs (GW, for instance, is a religious system, IMO). As I have said several times, I don't expect anyone to believe me, and I am not offended if they don't. I just thought I would round out the perspective here and explain why I am not concerned about GW.

[quote=pbfoot;382630][quote=Matt308;382623] Want to be forced to be taxed into riding public transit, small vehicles, or having your transit dollars reallocated to $billion dollar wasteful and non-efficient transportation... then vote for the greens.
Quote:

I hate to mention this but much of the efficient transportation in major US cities was bought out by a Cabal of GM, Firestone ,Standard Oil ,Philips and Mack to put street cars systems out of businees and replace with buses and cars in Detroit, New York, Oakland, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Salt Lake City, Tulsa, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Seattle and Los Angeles,
They were found guilty with anti trust violations and ffined $5000.00 and the execs $1.00

Great American streetcar scandal - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Don't get me wrong, I too find it a damn shame that the govt is paying for the (re-)installation of light rail lines that were in place years ago. But hindsight is 20-20. The political reality is they are being pushed as govt work projects in the best interest of the public. In my case voted down on numerous occasions only to be resurrected as necessary for my well being. And the business case for reinstalling them cannot be supported at sometimes $300M per mile in some areas (ref: Seattle Regional Transit Authority).

Oh and by the way for such an egregious act that you mentioned in your post, the companies were fined an antitrust penalty 2007 equivalent of $80,000. And the execs $16. Not too terribly punitive now is it.

Great find, I find that even in my advanced age I am still learning, and from pups no less. It doesn't get much better than that!!

Tpik, it was also the regional bus servers that helped instigate the demise of the passenger rail lines. It was not just the equipment and systems manufacturers, it was also the aspiring wheeled transportation providers.

About the institutes. I've worked in the past as as scientist (molecular biology) in several government funded institutes. Never felt that we were being pushed in one direction, on the contrary, I think the institutes were more objective than most. That's why I don't share your distrust of government payed scientists.

If you worked for your government as a scientist, you might want to consider changing your avatar!

Maybe a sheep or two. I saw rats in Nam that would rip you apart to get to your Cheetos!

I don't think anybody feels different - we all want to take care of our earth. But can't we just focus on that instead of having some trumped up voodoo science to guilt us into it?

The amazing thing about our economy is that it stays as efficient and productive as it does in spite of all the regulation. The other amazing thing is that the average citizen does not realise how over regulated we are. I lived in Dallas when the transition from street cars on rails to busses was made. There were a number of good reasons why that transition made sense although not in hindsight. It wasn't all a conspiracy.

I never doubted that. My comment was directed to Oreo, who (if I interprete his reactions correctly), seems to be willing to wait until God fixes it all. I disagree, believing we have to take responsibility ourselves as well.

I don't believe it is voodoo science. Some well renown institutes have researched this. The problem is that global warming has been misused by environmental extremists, which didn't do the believability of the theory much good. Doesn't take away that there is real science behind it IMO. This misuse, together with a reluctance giving up little parts of today's luxuries makes people willing to ignore the clues provided by science. Doesn't take away that there is also real science behind it.
Don't take me wrong, I'm not convinced either, but up to now I only saw evidence supporting the greenhouse theory. I think it would be a very big gamble to ignore that as there won't be a way back if we screw this up.

I would be very thankful to Javlin if he could post some evidence from what he wrote, like for instance his info about CO2 content of the atmosphere over the last say 80-100 years. I also would like to hear his theory where the extra CO2 provided by burning organic fuels has gone to if it is not in the atmosphere. Maybe this should give me the info I need to dismiss the Greenhouse theory.

It is unfortunate that the good message that underlies all of these groups is lost to fringe elements who hijack them. I'm all for conservation, treating animals fairly, etc., but don't support burning houses down or torching car lots to the get the point across. That's just domestic terrorism.
