Country: | FLYBOY, those are interesting events you related which show how an armed citizen can prevent a bad situation from becoming worse. I have had one situation where my possessing a gun prevented something from getting worse. IMO it is fine for other countries, Holland, Germany, etc. to have stringent gun laws. I will take the US and our gun laws in most of our states and cities. They are not like us and we are not like them demographically, geographically or culturally. |

Country: | Freebird I have been to many gunshows. I can't vouch for the Arizona show, but I can tell you about the gunshows that I have been to.
The gunshows are typically sponsored by a responsible gun enthusiast organization. The gunshows are open to the public. HOWEVER, you cannot purchase a gun unless you are a member of the organization. This membership includes extensive documentation of each members identity. In addition, most also make you fill out a purchasers form (member liability plays a huge part here).
Now certainly there are some guns that exchange hands in the parking lot or offsite. But these are rare and the members that I have met are very conciencious of to whom they are selling. The police/sheriff presence at the shows I have been to were very high, both in and out of uniform. You also have to remember that these shows do a tremendous amount of money (the majority of their income) selling, not firearms, but related items such as collectibles, knives, leathergear, scopes, hunting supplies, war paraphenalia, etc.
In short, the likelihood of the average Joe walking in and leaving with a firearm no questions asked is rather small. It would be a hell of a lot easier (and discrete) to obtain you gun from a thug on the street who is wanting to fence stolen goods.

Country: | Yes, Marcel, and it makes for an interesting discussion hearing your views and the views of others like you. There are articles in the "American Rifleman" from time to time about gun laws in other countries but the intent of those articles is not to criticise the gun laws in those countries so much as to educate the NRA members as to how what we regard as draconian gun laws evolve from a law which might appear to be relatively harmless into something entirely different. You might be surprised to hear that I know of people and happen to know one person well who are members of the NRA that own no guns. |

Do twenty push-ups before and it becomes ridiculous (for me)
I will stick with hands and feet as weapons because i can take them into every bar / pub / plane.
Taking into account that people like me walk the streets, every gun owner should precautionary shoot everyone in 10 feet radius.
By the way...
Am i right, that most of the gun enthusiasts do not live in a bigger city?
As far as i know most bigger cities in the USA have european like gun-laws.
Is that true? | Well I live in Cordoba the second city of Argentina with 2 million and a half of inhabitants and there is many gunlovers like me ( well maybe not so good looking like me)
However is truth that the open spaces of the rural areas favoured the use and enjoyment of shooting and hunting.
That could explain why the members from very little countries like Marcel , Danielsomething and the other dutch hate the guns so much and want to ban those at every cost.
I dont say al the danish and all the dutch are gunhaters but definately the aproach seems different.

I'll protect you with my 12-gage shotgun in case any of the bad thugs are trying to harm you. If you want, I'll teach you how to use it, and then you can use the 12-gage while I use the .35 Remington rifle, PB. Together we can hold off an awful lot of ne'r-do-wells. You don't have to be a super good aim to use a 12-gage effectively. |

Country: | I don't remember if I told you guys, I am going to take the concealed weapon class at the end of this month and obtain my concealed weapon permit. Then I just need to save up enough money to buy a nice little revolver I can take with me anywhere it's allowed. Probably a .38 Special, I think.
South Carolina is one of the freer states for gun rights. One of my best friends has an AR-15. |

Donīt worry. Weīre going to visit Oreo and Torch in their favourite pub andīll jostle them a bit
Back on topic...
I read some examples where the ownership of a gun "solved" a potential violent situation.
In my opinion most violent sitiuations occur when your out with your gf or wife.
Or worst case scenario: You are male, young and out for party-time with your mates.
Here in hamburg we have a problem with people drawing knifes at the reeperbahn on friday / saturday nights... |

| I mentioned something like that a bit back on how Britain has the same issue and are trying to ban any knives over 3 inches. Just goes to show ban guns, knives, knitting needles, frying pans when somebody wants to hurt they will use anything. I would atleast like to even my chances.
