As twoeagles said we fight for the freedoms of people and if he held a different view and did not want to sign it then that is his choice. | Hey - maybe the coach was trying to keep good order and discipline. It's not the kids "right" to be on the team. I am not bothered by this. People get fired all the time for saying the wrong thing, the wrong place, at the wrong time. It just happened to be about Canadian troops. Sure, he has freedom of speech, but the coach and team as an organization also has the RIGHT to run the team as they see fit and appropriate.

Country: | Here, here. We don't have to like it. But if it was my team or business, I would want to be able to fire who I wanted too. Anybody who disagrees is fired.

Country: | I really don't think he was a major part of the teams future he's in his last year of eligability in the league the team is 15 and 47 he has 15 goals and 8 assists and as of this point has not been drafted . I think the team probably wanted to dump him and plan for next year with a younger guy. It'll be interesting to see Cherrys comments if does

Country: | I don't think it'll raise that much of a stink, really. Not once people realize what Bouchard's history on the team is like. Just a guy being let go for new blood. |

Country: | Actually I would of given the kid a choice - either leave the team or find the closest Forces base and do the laundry of one of the units for a week -

Country: | The closest base to Saint John would be CFB Gagetown, an Army base. Perfect. The RCR (Royal Canadian Regiment) fellas there would love him, I'm sure. |

Plus they should live close to the business in houses that I will be happy to rent them, and their sons should mandatorily take the job of the father (daughters can be employed free of charge as servants and laundry in my castle).
But I will also guarantee my workers their freedom and provide them protection from the enemies or abuse of the State with my personal militia.

| Hmm, I don't know about the Canadian minor leagues but here in the US major league athletes have public appearances written into their contracts.
During the season, and off season, they MUST appear at Major League approved events and sign autographs and pose for photos. It's written into the contract they sign. The NFL uses The United Way.
He probably had to sign it whether he wanted to or not. And as the story stated, he was a lousy player and the signing was the last straw.
Small price to pay for being famous and getting any girl you want. |

Country: | Hockey coach suspended in flag-signing incident Alright then, as usual I was wrong. Politics has in fact reared it's ugly head in this matter. The head coach of a New Brunswick junior hockey team has been given a two-game suspension for kicking a player off the team who did not sign a Canadian flag.
The flag was going to be sent to Canadian troops serving in Afghanistan.
Gilles Courteau, commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, also fined the Saint John Sea Dogs $1,000 for having asked the players to sign the flag.
Courteau said Wednesday the request to sign the flag and coach Jacques Beaulieu's comments about Dave Bouchard — the player who didn't sign it — violated the league's anti-discrimination policy.
"The comments can be hurtful to the player and can be construed as a violation of his rights and, consequently, of our anti-discrimination policy," Couteau said.
