Country: | IRA gives up campaign of violence after 30 years The IRA today announced its calling a halt to its campaign of violence which they have been using to try and achieve their aim of a united Ireland for 30 years and have said they will only follow peaceful means to get their aim.

I think this is a huge step forward in the peace peace process if the IRA keep their word and if the unionist can be given satifactory proof to back the IRA's words. If this happens I believe progress will be made.

Country: | Well it's a start, eh? My knowledge of the relationship between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland is quite hazy, but didn't the latter basically tell the north that if they didn't put an end to their violence, there wasn't a snowflake's chance in hell that they'd ever reunify? |

Country: | I did a project about Northern Ireland at school. Really, they make out as if they're doing something good now but we beat them ages ago.
I've never understood the whole thing there, why do they bother? I mean really!
But yeah, I'll believe it when I see. Those pricks have said it all before. I know this American (well I know several..about 20 ) and her employer is also American and livin' in Britain for..well, I don't know his life story but ANYWAY, when London got hit he said "Oh that's good, at least they know what it's like now" You'd think I'd be angry but I laughed in his face because he proved how completely ignorant he was. And this IRA thing just reminded me of that. So there you go.

Country: | See, that's why a lot of people dislike Americans because unfortunately that man could have been the only American someone had ever met and then well <shudder> .
Luckily, I have a diverse collection of Americans that I know from Texas to Illinois, California to New York. And Canadians from Vancouver (he was on my basketball team) to Nova Scotia.

Country: | Yep - Ignorant Arseholes! I did know one guy who went to Ireland (including Northern Ireland) for a high school graduation present. When he returned he came back 180 out, threw away all his IRA paraphernalia and never talked about the IRA again!
