The Middle East is a mess of warring factions be it national or trible and it has been for centuries I dont think anything will change it for the forseeable time the only change will happen once the oil runs out then nobody will give a toss what happens out there.

I agree with what you say Plan_D about the fighting on middle east soil and I agree with you to an extent about the Israeli and Palestinian conflict.
I also agree with everyone about Syria. Syria is a big problem child and personally I think that is where the weapons of mass destruction are being hidden.

Now another place that I think is a hidden problem is Saudi Arabia. They pretend to be our allies and such not but the vast majority of the "innsurgents" that we are fighting in Iraq come from Syria and Saudi Arabia. I dont think they are doing eneogh and I think in the long run our friendship with them is going to bite us in the ass.

the big problem is that it will excalate beyond reason, we think it is bad now just wait. Syria will get involved and so will S.Arabia as they are already part of the problem as well as stinky Iran.

yes pray keep it over there but the US borders are open north and south and slime is here even in my neck of the woods as they closed a practice base two years ago about 60 miles east of little ol me.

ang it look what happened to London this morn !! I knew it was coming

I agree it is a matter of time before S. Arabia and Syria are involved which is why I posted a while ago that I believe that our so called friendship with S. Arabia is going to bite us in the ass. S. Arabia is more deeper involved with this crap than we like to know.

Saudi are more in it than the U.S likes to accept, you mean. The U.S government knows what comes from Saudi - they just like the oil that comes from there.

Here we go again!

Now weren't things quiet for awhile? First you had a suicide bomber kill some Israeli teens, then a rocket attack by Palestinian militias which was countered by a cobra strike that killed several Hammas militia. Now unless the media is hiding something, there was no reason for any terrorist group to strike, especially if Sharon keeps pushing Palestinian antimony. I'm sorry but at this point if Israeli went into Gaza they would be more than justified!

Well, I'll always stand by my belief that they're both as bad as each other. They can slog it out into oblivion for all care.

Europe has walked, ridden and driven through hell for centuries. War is nothing new to the soil of Europe.

I hate to say it but it seems Europe was safest when thousands of nukes and Soviet/ NATO forces were staring down each other's forces

Ahh the 80s' - Punk Rock, Mullets, Nuclear War, those were the days!

Are you kidding? Safest!?! Europe was going to feel the full force of the Soviet offensive. Great Britain would have felt what it was like to be on the wrong side of nuclear weapons too.

That wasn't going to be U.S vs. Soviet Union - the whole world would have been under the fire of nuclear war. Plus 60s and 70s would have been worse for the world, surely? That was the peak of the Cold War.

Yes, but who would've been willing to start the nuclear annihilation? At least in those days it was much more of a simple "us against them" kind of situation. Terrorism existed certainly, but it wasn't the bane of the western world that it's become today.
I think FBJ was just referring to the relative safety of the nuclear stalemate that existed during the Cold War. No one dared to be the first to push the button, and the fear of escalation kept any conventional conflict in check. At least throughout Europe.
