Haven't they attacked Grozny three times? I remember reading this massive discussion between Russians and Chechyans about it. It was really interesting to see both sides of the story but...I've forgotten everything!

I remember when Czechoslovakia was over run 1n 1968. I always felt that the US should of challenged the Soviet intervention rather than wasting lives and resources in Viet Nam. It's hard to say what the outcome would of been but based on the way things panned out for the Soviet Union I'm willing to bet they would of backed down.

I personally think that had the west challenged the Soviets in 1968 in Czechoslovakia we would have had a big stand off between the two but I dont think it would have escolated into the war. The Soviets wanted war against the western Allied nations as little as the western nations wanted it......

....However though that could have been the start of WW3. That is may be a reason why the western powers did not act upon it.

It really is a good what if scenerio. Personally I still think the Soviets would have backed down in the end. There was just too much at stake.

I agree. At the time though I think they were more on equal terms with the western military power. If WW3 had started there it would have been terrible even if it had stayed non nuclear.

In my opinion most, if not all, of Mid-East problems are because of three reasons: oil, cold war and Israel vs Palestine conflict.Cold war is over, oil will run out eventually, but Israel-Palestine problem will last forever.

but what do think would of happened if Chechen Muslims set off suicide bombs in Moscow in 1980?
Impossible! It wasn't easy to get a typewriter not to mention explosives.KGB is a terrible organisation.Besides chechen conflict couldn't even begin in USSR.

Not to say that 'Ol' Eyebrows' wouldn't have pulled out all the stops - full on conventional bombing, gas, and biological agents, as well as the Stalingrad Mk II storming of Grozny.
No, they'd tell you that those are intrigues of imperialists, then block all information on subject and send some troops to deport chechens to Syberia as they did in 1944.

No the main Middle Eastern problem is the fact that they think there Religion justifies them to go and kill people because they think differently. They are fanatics.

I don't think its the reason. It more looks like a motive or a excuse for their deeds. And those problems I mentioned are the cause why it all started.Correct me if I am wrong but before the creation of Israel there were no centralised resistance to Western world.Yes there were some conflicts but they were only nationalists that wanted to get freedom for their country. And only after Israel appeared, islamic world found common enemy to fight and reason to gather their forces.
