Country: | Because a majority of the people that are voting for them are not voting because of there policies but because they want out of Iraq. They are not voting because they want socialist ideals.

Country: | I agree that they want out of Iraq but I do believe they are tired of the present gov't and its present course aside from the Iraq issue .

Country: | And that leads them to vote for what possibly could be even a worse government for the people of the United States.

But there is something else at play which, in the very least, is just as important (IMHO). I've stated this before but it bears repeating. There is a culture war going on in this country. The far-left faction of the Democratic party wants to transform the USA into a secular-progressive, anything goes society (much like San Francisco already is).
They are anti-military (notice how many universities bar military recruiting on career days). Example: Columbia invites Ahmadinejad to speak, some idiot dean says they would have invited Hitler as well, but ROTC is barred from the curriculum.
The ACLU fights every anti-terror measure (Patriot Act, monitoring calls to outside terror organizations, etc).
Moveon.org trashes an American general, and the Democratic presidential candidates refuse to condemn them.
Partial birth abortion, legalized drugs, open borders, no profiling, fairness (?) doctrine; I could go on and on.
Responsible dissent is welcomed in America, however the far-left HATES America.
2008 could very well be the most important election in the history of this country.
OK, I'm done venting.

TO - I know how you feel. I wish the rest of NJ felt the way we do about the issue. The democratic party stands for everything I fight against, and everything that I will teach my children is morally wrong. Many of their policies are outright dangerous for the future of the USA.
They often claim that they stand for the very ideals that this country was founded upon - however if you look past their talking points you will find virtually nothing compatible with the foundation of America.

I prefer science as well, and don't have a problem with stem cell research. I'm very conflicted with the abortion issue, notice I stated "partial birth abortion"; I'm more upset with the those that would allow a 13 year old to have an abortion without a parents permission or even knowledge. Don't know about you but the nurse at my daughter's HS can't administer an aspirin without my permission, but the left wing loons say it's OK for her to have an abortion without my knowledge.
Hey, I'm just a conservative, traditional American that happens to believe in the Judeo-Christian beliefs that America was founded upon.....And I will do everything in my power to keep America free from the left wing nuts who would destroy this country.

I can't force you to change your mind. Those are all different issues, and not all who support or oppose them will do so for all.
Abortion is just one example. The vast majority of Americans believe that unfettered abortion of children is wrong. The percentage of counties in the US that do not have a single doctor that will perform an abortion is upwards of 80%, I believe. However, those that support the "right" to unregulated abortion hide behind activist judges that stand behind Roe v Wade and uphold that "right." What you have is a situation with the minority imposing their will upon a society. Good on Ireland for summing the issue of abortion up in their constitution.
One of Mr Bush's most dramatic acheivements may not even be felt for years - his appointments to the Supreme Court.

Country: | Thanks for all the comments guys.
But if a Democrat wins, would you rather it Obama than Hilary?
How big a chance does he have for instance, in getting the Black Community to vote for him instead of Hilary or anybody else? Of course, the Black Community doesn't just decide a vote. There is now the Mexican Community to deal with, and does Hilary have them more in her favor?
Don't get me wrong, I don't want Obama to win. I'm just curious.

I think that answers the question.

Country: | The black community has been shown to be a fickle lot. The majority will vote for whomever is nominated as the demo ticket. This is the shortcoming of the black vote. They are taken for granted and thus are promised little and will receive less.
Too bad actually. For if their vote were truly across the board with respect to party choice, both sides would scramble to ensure there were meaningful political promises for the black community. As it was noted above, the black vote is becoming marginalized by the Hispanic vote. They are more numerous and their vote is not homogeneous. Thus politicians from both sides make outrageous promises to garner their attention.
Ah politics. At times war seems so much simpler...
