The Supreme Court has basically a 5-4 conservative advantage. And that can change base on retirements and new appointees. But the problem for America is in the lower courts. The vast majority of cases that affect our lives and culture never make it to the Supreme Court. Lot's of damage is done locally. But as far as the most major issues are concerned, your thought process is correct.

I voted I don't want to think about it. During your Federal Election campaign I am thinking of starting a Mushroom farm. I will get some burlap sacks some bullshit and fungus and go from there in a dark room. Hil on the Hill doesn't impress me one bit. Raving Obama has the same appeal. Surely there is some one else in the Democrats you just haven't looked hard enough. As for the Republicans I shudder. Sometimes I am glad I live in Australia. But we are no better here we Have Kevin (Dementia 07) Rudd who leads the Australian Labour Party who will be in opposition to our up coming Federal Election which will possibley be in November this year. John Howard our current Australian Prime Minister is due to call the Federal Election soon

You can't support the present government.... not after they take a vacation

Okay then CC, please explain to me how the Dems are going to be better for the United States

Ut oh Charles - I don't see how you can argue this one. I know how you feel regarding Iraq, but the implications at home of a democrat in the white house will have sweeping changes for the American way of life - namely it will be no more and you will likely see the beginning of a Euro style welfare state.

There's a commercial that scares me that is on TV quite often. It's one of those lefty groups, endorsed by AARP, that supports the democrats. Their closing line is something to the tune of "it's time for healthcare and prosperity for all." I'm sorry (I've said this many times), but it not the function of the government to provide citizens with financial prosperity, but merely the opportunity to prosper. It is up to the individual to do what they choose with that opportunity.

Assuming the Dem's get into the white house.... I believe the way the
country is now being run is going to change. How... I'm not sure. The
Bush administration is nothing but a bunch of Bush's pals and cronys.
He has rewarded his "faithful" with good jobs and positions. Look at
the Harriette Miers for the Supreme Court nomination..... just a case of
rewarding a long time friend with a good job. There were others too.
Needless to say, Harriette Miers was not qualified to sit on the Supreme
Court.

A lot of the Republican senators, who are up for re-election, are trying
to get away from him, to better their chances of being re-elected.
For a long time the Republican senators were marching in lock-step
with him. That is changing right now

I don't recall saying it would be better.... I said I think the course the
country is going will change. Better ? That remains to be seen.

As for Iraq..... I still think we should get out and let the bastards fight
it out among themselves.

Charles

While I agree with you about Bush and cronies I dont want to see the change that the Dems are going to bring to this country. They are going to destroy it with there way out there liberal politics. They may do better things for international relations but they will destroy the United States.

You wont be able to fart without someone sueing you because it offends there religion.

They are going to change everything that makes the United States what it is.

Oh well I will talk to you guys again tomorrow after I come back to work, unless I get my internet at home back up. Yall have a good night.

As I stated earlier it will take more then 8 years to change the course of the US government , good lord you can't even get the metric system because of the inability to change

Charles, for me it's the Hillary factor, as I've stated a number of times in a few different threads. As far as I'm concerned the three biggest threats to this country are (in order)....

1) Hillary

2) The ACLU

3) Al Queda

Not exactly PB. Legislation could be passed through the House and Senate and signed into law by a democratic president. That could feasibly be done in 4 years, let alone 8.

Screw the metric system - I like the English system... it's "rustic"

I used the metric system as an example of how hard it is to change legislation in the US , you must admit if everyone used the same system it would be a good idea . Some times a gov't must change something even if it is unpopular (metric system) you guys were supposed to change but you didn't now you are the only country except for Myramar and Liberia that use a system other then.

Why do we need the metric system ? I find it awkward.... The only
thing wrong with the 12" equals one foot system is if you need three
tenths of a foot for some reason. You'd wind up with 3.6 inches,
which gets hairy..

Exactly and that is why the metric system is so much better.

Lets see 1/8th, 1/16th or 1, 2, 3....

Metric is better.
