Country: | I believe there will be a World War III. There is a strong chance that if Korea gets out of hand and China gets involved, we will go to war. Weither im drafted or become an ROTC Lieutinent. I might have to fight on foreign soil for my country and and Democracy.

Country: | Whoah calm down there P-38. I really dont think that N. Korea is going to pose a problem. China maybe but not for some time. And by the way ROTC Cadets do not go to war.....
....They finish college become Leutenants in the Army and then get killed and all there men killed because they think they learned everything they need to know about the Army and War in there cushy college while they had Frat partys everynight. ROTC and West Point Officers tend to make lousy officers unless they learn quick that they need to listen to there NCO's who have been around.

Country: | Agreed, Adler. P-38, don't be in any hurry to get into combat. Ask any of the guys here who have been there, and they will tell you it ain't no party. I wondered what it would be like, and once I found out, I knew it wasn't fun, at all.

Country: | You guys are right but in my time when im in my 20's there will be a war where the draft will come about and i will go to war as a low ranking buck private and have to follow cocky leaders into combat. Now, I know what my relatives who have been in war have told me what it is like. My Cousin who was in Vietnam told me that he almost got killed by NVA snipers a couple of times. If i become a Leautinent i would try to be a good leader who wouldn't try to be a hero and have men killed but try to think like a actual soldier: the goal to stay alive and kill the enemy! Now i know some of you served in the middle east and everything and you know what war is like. But if we have a World War III, I would want to lead my squad or platoon not only to victory, but try to get as many back home their country.

Country: | Nobody can tell you what it is like, period. It effects everyone differently and it processes in people's brains differently. WWIII, maybe, who knows. Just don't be anxious for it, because if that happens, a LOT of people will die.
I understand you want to do what is best for your men and your country and that is good. But sometimes military leadership involves decisions that get people killed, whether you like it or not. Some of those decisions may not be popular either. You have to do what is best in the situation and realize that good men die in combat. It's a simple fact of life. You also have to know that any decision you make, you will have to live with for the rest of your life. That's the reality.
The best advice in the field is keep your feet dry, your gun clean and your eyes and ears open and alert. Failure to do just one of these things has killed many men.

Country: | P-38, how old are u??? Before u make plans to lead ur troops into combat, u better study up on ur english classes... It seems that u are a LOOOONNNGGG way away from being in a wartime situation..
Dont rush it buddy.... Have fun bein a kid and enjoy ur youth... Contrary to what the movies make it out to be, war is NOT fun..
As for WWIII, i dont see it happening.... One country invading several other countries??? And the rest of the world gets involved???
HA!
The French??? When the smell of war comes to their noses, the surrender flag manufacturers all go on triple shifts....

Country: | P-38 - LISTEN TO LES! Sometimes being in the military isn't what it's cranked up to be, let alone fighting (and sometimes dying) in a war far from home. As a teenager I saw my brother go through mental and physical hell from his Viet Nam experience. He was a decorated Viet Nam veteran - you know what it got him? An addiction to heroin and other drugs, a divorce, separation from his kids and the loss of numerous jobs. he was one step away from being a deranged transient, luckily he pulled himself together. There is nothing worse in the world to see a loved one wake up in the middle of the night screaming and shaking and trying to hide from incoming! War is hell and it effects you physically and mentally. Until you know you're ready to accept the "side effects" of a military career you better get a good education, mature a bit and really soul search and ask yourself "is this what I REALLY want to do?"

Country: | You guys have both raised good points. I remember the first trip out to the rifle range. Popping off rounds at paper targets was fun and exciting. But when you have to use the rifle for it's intended purpose, the fun goes away...fast! Also, paper targets do not shoot back.
Glad your brother got himself back together Joe. I know some guys that are still affected badly.
