| More Weirdness Just heard the Australian gov’t made people turn in their guns, unbelievable! Also heard that one of the leaders of the Aussie gov’t is asking the U.S. gov’t to make people turn in their guns, and transfer all military forces over to the UN. A lot of weird stuff going on these days.

Country: | We had to turn in our guns about 9 or 10 years ago after a brutal massacre when 36 people were shot dead.

Country: | Yes, have you got a link or something? I find it hard to believe the Australian Govt telling America what to do with its military.

| Hi gents:
I heard it from the discussion on the varichip company, on AM 790. A very reputable conservative radio station. Here's a link to the Varichip company: http://www.verichipcorp.com/

Country: | I don't know about all of you, but as I understand it the Australian military is well-trained and well-equipped. Not unlike the British military but with American equipment? Wildcat?

Individual soldiers are well equipped with quality hardware (I'm talking about helmits, body armour, weapons, NVG's, NAD's even excellent boots). On the bigger iteams the Government has been spending it up big. The Leopards are beening replaced by Abrams, Air Warfare destroyers are going to be built (in the city where I live, in fact), Amphibious assault ships are being sought to replace the old ones we have now, F/A 18's and F111's will be replaced by the JSF when it comes into service, the Army has finally recieced attack helicopters plus more heavy lift choppers are on the way (Merlins in think?) AWACS aircraft have been ordered, Rapier SAM's have been replaced with new RBS-70's and the hundreds of ASLAVS and APC's have all been upgraded.
As you can see the Government is obviously making an attempt to upgrade and replace ageing equipment and in some cases add new capabilities to the ADF. As for buying American, the ADF has a lot stuff that's not American such as Steyr rifles, Tigre helicopters, RBS-70's the thousands of Land Rovers etc. The ADF will usually buy equipment that is good quality and value for money (not always a good thing!)

Country: | Excellent boots!? I wish the British military had them.
It seems that we have a new power on our hands in Australia. You've all always been known to be excellent soldiers, and I think a good mix of European and American equipment will serve you well. I'm actually quite interested in the ADF now. You seem to be one of the 'small' nations, but are actually quite powerful - at least in a ground war. How about naval power?

| Wildcat- it is interesting how almost universally peoples of the world get along fine and share comraderie. In the Cold War the Russians never hated the American people, just the government and truly most Americans felt the same way.
It goes the reverse too when the US government comes up with some bonehead statement about what Australians should do. I'd be the 1st to say stay the hell outta the Australian peoples' business!
If the governments would leave all of us alone we'd be great.
