| The next conflict - your opinions? So where do you think the next conflict will spring up. Iran seems to be pushing ahead with it's nuclear programme, North Korea maybe or maybe even China, it's been quiet for ages and is starting to amass some up to date equipment. The middle east is always a powder keg with Israel stuck out there too.

| Id say Iran.
I dont think China wants trouble with the US because of the profitable economic relationship they have with us. They will keep NK on a short leash.

Country: | I agree syscom, China has too much to loose economically if it were to go to war with the US (or any other Western country). I would also agree about Iran, the way they are acted at the moment it looks like they are on the warpath or they just want to see how far they can push their luck, I'm sure the West will reach the end of it's tether soon and then we will see some (hopefully) decisive action.

Country: | My guess is also Iran, it also depends alot on what happens in the Middle East with how Sharon does. Sharon is a old horse, aka old school but he has been pretty moderate running Israel. If he would loss power in Israel then the next leader might not be so moderate and that could mean alot of dead people in Iran. The politics in the Middle East depends alot on Sharon health I think. If Israel gets a new leader who knows what will happen then.

| A couple of options
N Korea pushing its luck in the South whilst threatening Japan with a Nuclear strike if it lets the USA help
China taking Taiwan once its military is correctly set up. Remember they will have the economic power to threaten economic hardship to a number of western countries if they try to help
Iran I don't think so. They have too many internal problems and have suffered huge losses in the war against Iraq. Knowing what a tough time they had and how comparatively easily the West dealt with Iraq they know what will happen if they try anything. |

Iraq got their butts handed to them in Desert Storm and still they goated on the west and the West kicked their butts again, they never learnt either, why do you think Iran is any smarter.

| I don't think Iran is smarter, however I think the west is smarter. We made some basic blunders against Iraq (namely not finishing the job the first time around) I don't think we would make the same mistake a second time around. |

| If we define victory against Iran as destroying their nuclear capacity, we would win easily.
A regime change would be a whole different story.

Country: | I feel that Syria should be our first stopover, followed by Iran.... I believe Syria poses a bigger problem than Iran...

| I don't think that Syria is a huge threat. It doesn't have the economic clout or the industrial base needed to take on any major power in the area. As time passes it gets further behind in the technology stakes and the situation will get worse for them. Even the Lebanon is prepared to stand up for themselves more than they ever used to. |

#13 | | | sorry Glider but there is some interesting tidbits based in Syria that the media have distorted ever since our involvement in Iraq.
Actually I would (prefer) the Israeili's making a nice evening social vist to both countries instead of us getting involved. maybe some high noon tea possibly ?

Country: | Well I think it will be Iran/Syria. N. Korea does not pose a problem Only on paper and they will not try and push there luck. The short old bastard will die and I think the Koreas will reunite. As for China they too do not want a war any more than we do. Iran is just dumb and going to push there luck until we kick there ass. Syria has the WMD's that Iraq used to have.
