The only way we could have shot it down that soon was to use a laser, and I dont think we have anything deployed right now that could do it.
If we did bag it by an anti-missle, then word will get out really fast. Something like that is perfect for public and foreign govt consumption.

Sometimes if you get you're butt kicked and you're all alone, you avoid telling telling anyone....
Still just a theory of course...

| Im thinking of that 747 being modified to carry a high powered laser. Its under construction.
I could be wrong though.
Actually I think it would have been announced that we shot it down. Think of all the contracts that would be awarded to expand the current missle defenses. Everyone in the world would want one of them.

Actually I think it would have been announced that we shot it down. Think of all the contracts that would be awarded to expand the current missle defenses. Everyone in the world would want one of them. | That was built a while ago and is in testing phase, supposedly it flew off to 'parts unknown' a week ago, though that doesn't necessarily mean anything.
No reason you couldn't sabotage it on the ground though, it takes them ages to fuel up those missiles, remember that train that had a massive mysterious explosion a couple of years ago?
They are pretty useless anyway, poorly engineered and grossly inaccurate, they can't even use much of a war head if they want it to go long distance, and they have never got one to work properly anyway (they claim every test is a 'success', even this one that is quite clearly an embarassing failure).
I did hear rumours that China was pushing NK to test the missiles close to the US so it could guage how the US ABM radar system worked, though I doubt they would want to risk a mega war on their doorstep while they are making so much money from the rest of the world, war has a nasty habit of sending countries broke.

| The Chinese wouldnt have done that.
Even they dont want to see a war right on their doorstep.

| I just read this. This sounds like an interesting scenario on what happened after the launch. But doesnt explain how the operatives could have gotten close enough to hit the missle.
This was the second part of the article. Inside the Ring*-*Nation/Politics*-*The Washington Times, America's Newspaper
Sabotage potential
We have no evidence that the U.S. was able to sabotage North Korea's Taepodong-2 missile, which malfunctioned 42 seconds into launch on Tuesday and crashed.
But we do note that special operations forces (SOF) are playing an increasing role, overt and covert, in the world under Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld's rule. We also note that one of the reasons that SOF procured the powerful .50- caliber Barrett's sniper rifle was to have the capability to disable ballistic missiles. It's a scenario for missile defense you won't see in any literature from the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency: insert a commando behind the lines, who positions himself within shooting range of the launchpad.
"One of the original reasons for procuring the .50-caliber sniper system was to disable missiles," a SOF source says. "A round pumped in prior to launch, or during to cover the noise, in the right place would cause a catastrophic malfunction."
Page one of the article was this. And its interesting. I dont know what to believe, other than Russian and Chinese reaction was suspiciously subdued as like they knew it was going to be launched. Inside the Ring*-*Nation/Politics*-*The Washington Times, America's Newspaper

Country: | I confess...........
I did it !
yes with my supernatural psychic powers I subdued short dong wong as he pushed the experimental button too early on the long range dud that was suppose to pop Hawaii. He has not been able to sleep since as I have given him a mind probe filled with french fries and the north Korean team bowing out during the World cup.
