Take a look at the countries who signed the act and then take a look at what rates they are paying only the Scandinavian countries are up to par on the 7% goal but most developed nations pay pay about .003% + but few are below the US at 0.0017%.

And what does that equate to in actual dollars when compared to the other countries?

Bottom line, as a US citizen, it's my tax dollars and if it was up to me I would dramatically CUT all foreign aid - period.

Washington is worried about consumer spending declining and associated decline in jobs and its impact on the economy as a whole, not to mention folks getting themselves into trouble by making moronic choices when it came to applying for a mortgage... and they think the answer is to take MORE tax money from Americans to hand out overseas, effectively further REDUCING the amount of DISPOSABLE INCOME that Americans have... it's just not tied to reality.

Global integration has always been a goal of socialism... look out folks.

Well MKloby I hope your house never catches fire because your neighbour might hold back on the hose thinking it would be socialist. As for globalization the dems both want to curtail free trade is this kind of an oxymoron

If my neighbors house was burning, I would loan him a hose.

F*ck the UN.
The UN was a good idea but the present form is unworkable. Giving all the little tin-pot dictatorships the same one vote as the US is a stupid system to begin with. Having rotating chairmanships so that tyrants can be in charge of the human rights commission is a big joke too.

Interesting idea. I agree that help should come with strings attached.

But aid does not help people in the long term, it's only a band-aid. Unless the corrupt & disfunctional governments are changed these countries will never be prosperous.

If he has his sh!t together his water bill will be paid, and with a borrowed hose he'll save his house.

The point here is the US and I'll stress "US" taxpayer shoud control where and who our aid goes to - PERIOD!

you are correct but then we must look at who props up these corrupt governments and take action against them .To stick your head in the sand and say we can't help does not bode well for the future , the world is a very small place now and to think of it as the world 50 years ago is dumb .

That's a poor analogy. Being a Catholic, I believe very strongly in charity, and I follow those beliefs with action. Need I remind you of studies that all indicate the most charitable folks also are the more conservative minded. If liberals and socialists belief in the garbage rhetoric they spew, why don't they put their money where their mouth is? Charity to external entities is not the role of the US government, it is the personal responsibility of us all. This does not mean that I believe the US should not get involved to stop calamities throughout the world - it should. But to collect taxes from working Americans and dole it out throughout the world is irresponsible when it can be used to help Americans.

Billions of dollars have been spent on some countries and they have nothing to show for it.

No aid to a country untill they are serious about reforming themselves.
